The Fuel Contracts Negotiator reports into the Forward Trading Desk Head. The Forward Trading Team consists of the Forward Trading Desk Head, 5 traders, 1 Originator, and the Fuel Contract Negotiator. The desk is actively involved in wholesale energy trading in the UK, European, and Irish markets. The primary function of the team is the hedging of the gross margin for ESB's thermal and renewable fleet of generation in line with current trading and risk policy and the procurement of physical fuel supply. In addition, the team will also conduct the day-to-day trading requirements of ESB Trading in line with its trading strategy. This will include execution of asset optimisation strategies, fuel procurement policies, and power hedging activities.Key ResponsibilitiesResponsible for ensuring timely delivery of suitable fuels to ESB generation fleetKeep abreast of current trends and developments in areas of expertiseMaintain knowledge and skills in order to carry out full range of dutiesFacilitate and support others in achievement of team goals and contribute positively to the development of the team and selfDemonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changeResponsibility for developing a diverse suite of counterparties with diverse sources of coal from different locationsLiaising with Moneypoint on coal quality and specification issuesLiaising with Moneypoint on coal yard stock levels and how best to manageManaging the logistics of the shipment including nominating vessels, load port, and discharge port laycansNegotiating the coal contracts both spot and term contracts including regulatory and safety requirementsLiaising with ESB legal on contractsDevelop subject matter expertise on the physical coal markets and their driversNegotiate CIF and FOB contracts including freightLiaise with insurance on relevant insurance cover requiredLiaise with Treasury and Back Office on payment schedules and FX requirementsLiaise with Shannon Foynes Port Authority on safety issues and tug ratesOther responsibilities as required by managementKnowledge, Skills and Experience5+ years relevant experienceExperience in using Excel and Microsoft suiteExperience in contract negotiationsHigh level understanding of the I-SEM marketHighly numerateExperience in managing stakeholdersExperience in front line trading/operationsQualificationsThird level qualification with a strong quantitative/financial/economics base or equivalent work experience is required.
