Senior Process Engineer – Silicon & MEMS

Job Description
The Special Projects and Services Group provides semiconductor processing services to internal and external researchers across a very wide range of technologies. This position offers the opportunity to widen knowledge and experience with many exciting technology challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee operational and engineering activities within the Silicon & MEMS cleanrooms, supporting diverse fabrication processes.
* Develop, optimize, and implement processes across various technologies to meet R&D and commercial requirements.
* Work collaboratively with equipment maintenance teams to ensure optimal tool performance and availability.
* Lead troubleshooting, problem-solving, and continuous improvement initiatives across all process areas.
* Provide technical training and support for cleanroom users, including postgraduate researchers and technical staff.
* Create and maintain compliance documentation, such as risk assessments (RAs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensuring Health & Safety standards are met.
* Manage project deliverables for internal and external stakeholders, including scheduling, resource planning, and reporting.
* Act as a liaison for customers, translating requirements into practical and innovative fabrication solutions.
* Promote process excellence by implementing best practices and sharing knowledge across teams.
* Mentor and coach team members, fostering professional growth and enhancing team capabilities.
* Carry out any additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.
Essential Criteria:
* MSc Degree in Engineering, Science or a related discipline or equivalent experience.
* Typically, a minimum of 5 years experience in semiconductor wafer process engineering in a commercial or R&D fabrication environment, with hands-on involvement in process development and optimization.
* Strong technical skills (>3 years experience in, and demonstrated development of), in at least three fabrication areas e.g. etching, deposition, thermal processing, metrology, or related semiconductor fabrication processes.
* Proven success in managing and delivering technical projects, with specific examples of scheduling, resource management, and achieving project goals.
* Experience creating and maintaining compliance documents (e.g., RAs, SOPs) and ensuring adherence to Health & Safety standards.
* Evidence of strong organizational skills, handling competing demands, and meeting deadlines (e.g., workflow improvements, cross-functional projects).
* Effective communication skills, with examples of mentoring or training others, presenting technical results, or customer interactions.
Salary and Appointment Details
Appointment may be made on the Senior Technical Officer Scale B salary scale € 64,587- € 75,961 per annum. Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
