What’s the Role and Service?
Barnardos services seek to improve the emotional well-being of vulnerable children and their families. We are looking for an experienced Family Support Worker to join our Family Support Service in Southill, Limerick.
What will my day to day look like?
As a Family Support Worker, you will play a vital part in providing practical advice and support to parents, helping to develop skills to identify and meet their children’s needs. You will be responsible for the following:
* Providing practical support with budgeting, home management, hygiene, nutrition, play, and behaviour management.
* Creating, reviewing, and updating intervention plans along with the key worker and other project staff.
* Ensuring child protection, being vigilant for signs of abuse or neglect, reporting any concerns immediately, and keeping accurate records.
* Identifying and documenting unmet needs of children/families within the service and participating in Barnardos advocacy work.
* Gathering information, updating databases, and preparing reports.
What experience do I need?
* Minimum 2 years’ experience working with vulnerable children and families specifically within a child welfare context.
* Experience of delivering group work programmes to children in the community i.e. morning clubs, afterschool groups, stay and play groups is essential.
* Ability to empower vulnerable families to develop skills and avoid dependency.
* Understanding issues of confidentiality and establishing professional boundaries.
* Confident working with databases and various computer packages such as Microsoft Office.
Yes, to be eligible for this role you will need to have a minimum of level 5 on the QQI in Working with Children. It would also be an advantage to have some training in specific parenting and group work approaches along with a knowledge of child development.

A Full driving licence and access to the use of a suitably insured vehicle essential.
The post-holder is initially assigned to work in the Limerick South Family Support Project but may be required in the future to work in other locations in the Limerick area in line with Organisational needs.
