Your role and responsibilities

If yes, we are looking for talented Content Developers to help make a meaningful impact on how our customers use our Automation offerings. We expect you to have experience in designing and developing technical product content, both inside and outside of the user interface (UI), with a focus on clarity, accuracy, and the user experience.

As a Content Designer who is passionate about delightful in-product guidance and contextual help, you’ll make it easier for our clients to use and drive business benefits from IBM products. As a member of the design team, you will have the opportunity to work alongside UX and Visual designers to create excellent UI content experiences for our users. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including content developers, user experience researchers, product managers, and developers, to drive a cohesive end-to-end content experience that moves clients through their product journey. You will also advise the development team on content style and language use within the product. Rigor, attention to detail, teamwork, insatiable curiosity, and a willingness to learn will be critical as you work in this rapidly evolving space in the industry.
Preferred technical and professional experience
1. Write and edit UI copy and design content experiences that are easy to use, easy to understand, and easy to navigate.
2. Research and design content based on user scenarios and use cases: understand personas, deliver content for design iterations, develop and clarify UI terms, actively contribute to design reviews, conduct user testing/research to validate content.
3. Simplify technically complex concepts and details from multiple sources into consumable content that drives user actions. Deliver clear, inclusive, accessible, and translated content for a global audience.
4. Work hand-in-hand with UX designers (at all design fidelities) to provide content feedback and refine and revise content when features or priorities change.
5. Use excellent writing and editing skills with strong research skills.
6. Research terminology, ensure our offerings align with industry standards, and ensure term consistency across the product portfolio.
7. Understand modern design thinking and design trends (including responsiveness, accessibility, AI).
Cross-functional collaboration and alignment
Work closely with Design, Content Development, Product Management, Development, Marketing, Support, Sales, and Training, to tell a cohesive product story. Use expertise and user empathy to influence product design decisions to deliver the best content experiences we can for our clients.
Own parts of the end-to-end authoring process: design, develop, edit, user test, revise.
Work independently, with a strong sense of responsibility, desire to take initiative, and commitment to teamwork.
Work in an agile environment with dynamic schedules and priorities; be able to provide content input across squads and context switch easily.
Demonstrate a volunteer spirit with a ‘we succeed as a team’ attitude.
Use excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Leadership
Identify initiatives for UI content including planning, scheduling, and prioritizing.
Manage projects that involve worldwide teams.
Solve challenging problems and think of new ways to deliver better content to our clients.
Champion the content designer role and responsibilities; build eminence by contributing to content designer education, resources, and presentations.
Required Experience:
1. Expertise in wireframing and designing with tools such as Figma and Mural.
2. Understanding of the product user journey and creating content that meets user needs for specific UI tasks.
3. Expertise in designing and developing a variety of in-product guidance including embedded assistance, tours, and supplemental reference information.
4. Experience working in an agile, squad-based, continuous delivery mode and understanding of the design fidelity lifecycle.
5. Ability to analyze and derive insights from quantitative and qualitative user feedback.
Preferred Experience:
1. Experience in Git or GitHub, Jira, or other issue and task management applications
2. Familiarity with design systems (such as Carbon) and application of consistent components, voice, and tone
3. Interest and ability to learn how to infuse AI into our content operations
