What is the opportunity?
This role presents an opportunity to join a small, highly progressive team which plays a pivotal role in supervising and challenging ESG risks of the Group (and its customers).
The purpose of the role is to provide strong and effective second line of defence (2LOD) ESG risk oversight.
This is achieved through co-ordination of the oversight of ESG risk management across the Group's 2LOD risk owners and, as a subject matter expert, providing guidance on ESG risk matters to Group colleagues.

In this role, you will:
Provide independent review and challenge of ESG risk management.
This includes review of how the Group meets its ESG related regulatory and voluntary commitments, regulatory reporting and disclosures and risk policy updates.
Understand the relevant regulatory requirements and ensure there are plans and processes in place to meet the requirements e.g.
new EBA Guidelines on ESG Risk Management Identify standard methodologies in industry for risk management of ESG factors and be a subject matter authority providing advice to first and second line of defence colleagues.
Drive identification, assessment, management and reporting on ESG related risks.
Development and monitoring of ESG risk metrics to measure and oversee the risks.
Prepare, as required, 2LOD insight papers on ESG risk matters, as well as review and challenge of 2LOD papers to relevant Group committees.
Implementation and maintenance of the ESG Risk Management Framework, engaging with partners and ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities and appropriate risk standards and controls.
Engagement with 2LOD ESG risk owners in the Group subsidiaries to ensure key risks being managed and reported on.
What will make you stand out?
We are looking for someone with significant experience of leading risk in a front line or second line of defence role, ideally in ESG risk.
A keen understanding of the Group's ESG commitments and the regulatory environment and expectations in relation to ESG risk matters.
Experience in implementing regulatory programmes or regulatory guidelines would be a strong positive.
Experience in providing risk analysis and perspectives and developing risk metrics to inform key risk and Group decisions and in reviewing and reporting on risk developments and risk appetite.
Strong influencing skills across 1st and 2nd line risk management will be a key part of the role.
You will be a critical thinker, with strong interpretation skills and an ability to influence at a senior level.
