Reporting to: Solas Og Coordinator / Head of Service
Overview: Our Solas Og service has an exciting opportunity for a full-time role. This is a new role and gives the successful candidate the opportunity to develop in the role. In Solas Og, our focus is on early intervention and education for young people in schools regarding healthy and unhealthy relationships.
Overall Objectives: COPE Galway Domestic Abuse Service provides support to around 600 women and their children each year. Those who use our service are women either at risk from an abusive partner or who have suffered abuse. Our role is to provide a safe space for each woman and her children and then to assist her in exploring options and making decisions which will lead to a better life.
Service Offering:
1. Refuge: A purpose-built nine-bed refuge providing short-term emergency shelter to women at risk.
2. Outreach: Working with women in the community who do not avail of refuge.
3. Children's Service: Dedicated service working with mothers and children to manage the impact of abuse.
4. Accompaniment: Support for women attending court and engaging with legal aid or other agencies.
5. Training & Awareness: Addressing the causes of abuse and providing training to various agencies and schools.
6. Research and Innovation: Developing preventative approaches and better responses to victims through research.
7. Advocacy: Operating from a rights-based approach to empower women and provide a voice for shared issues.
Key Areas:
Under the direction of the Solas Og Coordinator and Head of Service, you will:
1. Deliver our secondary school programme on Healthy and Unhealthy relationships.
2. Liaise with schools to promote the programme and book workshops.
3. Support the Development Officer in creating resources for the programme.
4. Assist in monitoring and evaluating the programme's development in schools.
5. Support the Development Officer in developing CPD programmes for teachers regarding domestic abuse.
6. Promote and facilitate the delivery of these programmes in Galway city and county.
7. Report on progress in these areas.
Health and Safety Responsibilities:

Person Specification:
We are looking for someone who will work with the Solas Og coordinator, Development Officer, and team to develop the following areas of work:
1. Facilitate our school programme for junior cycle students on Healthy and Unhealthy relationships.
Qualifications:
1. Level 8 NFQ qualification in a relevant discipline (education, youth work, social care).
Experience:
1. Experience working with young people in a group setting.
2. Experience in the education sector, specifically in developing learner materials.
Skills and Abilities:

Terms:
1. Contract: 3-year fixed term contract.
2. Salary: Point 1 Social Care Worker scale.
3. Hours of Work: Full-time role (35 hours per week).
4. Annual Leave: 24 days.
