Amazon is seeking talented Software Development Engineers to architect, build and operate large-scale DNS platforms, configuration management systems and real-time system status APIs. Our team focuses on the security, performance, availability and scalability of our Internet-scale services.
We build and operate systems that are critical in powering Amazon's global retail, AWS and Kindle businesses. As a member of our team, you will design and develop highly visible products, be involved in all aspects of the software development lifecycle and interact with many other engineering teams across Amazon.
Successful candidates will have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills and a desire to tackle complex problems at scale.
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to innovation.
You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to deliver high standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.
Key Job Responsibilities
* Write, test and maintain code which is critical for operating a Tier-0 service, foundational for almost all AWS services.
* Participate in a team of other software engineers to deliver solutions that matter.
The successful candidate will have relentlessly high standards which they will apply into their day-to-day.
- They will own architecture of solutions, input to annual and 3-year-plans and mentor other software engineers.
- They will review the state-of-the-art within and outside the company and bring new ideas on how to serve DNS within Amazon.
- Work in a group of talented software engineers to deliver features and new components.
- Design and review designs for new components and systems.
- Participate in discussions with key stakeholder organisations and take their input.
- Coach, mentor and develop peers within the team.
- Evangelise development practices within the team, org and company.

About the team
DNS is critical in any company; the AWS DNS team, part of Route 53, is focused on serving internal customers. These customers are AWS and Amazon Retail teams. AWS DNS is split into smaller subteams and each individual team is operating as a start-up, working on solutions from the idea phase to delivery and then operations.
Requirements
- Experience (non-internship) in professional software development
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
