The Project Supervisor for the Design Process (PSDP) is appointed before design work commences and ensures safety and effectiveness in addressing and coordinating safety and health matters from the very early stages of a project. This is a full-time, permanent position.
The duty of the Project Supervisor for the Design Process (PSDP) is to ensure coordination of the work of designers throughout the project. A PSDP is appointed by the Client to oversee the coordination of the design work.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Identify hazards arising from the design or from the technical, organisational, planning or time related aspects of the project;
2. Where possible, eliminate the hazards or reduce the risks;
3. Communicate necessary control measures, design assumptions or remaining risks to the PSCS so they can be dealt with in the safety and health plan;
4. Ensure that the work of designers is coordinated to ensure safety;
5. Organise co-operation between designers;
6. Prepare a written safety and health plan for any project where construction will take more than 500 person days or 30 working days or there is a particular risk and deliver it to the client prior to tender;
7. Prepare a safety file for the completed structure and give it to the client;
8. Notify the Authority and the client of non-compliance with any written directions issued.
9. The PSDP may issue directions to designers or contractors or others.
Knowledge & Experience (Education & Related Experience):
1. Level 8 Degree in a related discipline
2. Extensive experience and knowledge of the PSDP process
3. Experience as a safety advisor
4. Ability to work on own initiative
5. Full driving licence as travel will be required
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
7. Excellent planning and organisation skills
