Our Data Centers run critical IT infrastructure, requiring a reliable supply of uninterrupted cooling and power at all times to deliver continuous uptime availability for our customers. As a technical manager in Amazon, you can innovate to solve complex problems and help drive Operations Excellence in all areas of your role.
Our Facility Managers (Engineering Operations Managers) are responsible for leading a team and overseeing best-in-class operations and maintenance of the mechanical and electrical infrastructure for our data centers in the AWS Cloud region. They are self-managed individuals who demonstrate an initiative mindset, proactively seek solutions to problems, and strive for operational excellence.
Key job responsibilities
1. Responsible for the on-site management of shift technicians, senior shift technicians, sub-contractors, and vendors, ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with established practices and procedures.
2. Has primary responsibility for the availability zone of Data Centers (2-4 locations).
3. Participates in strategic planning projects.
4. May oversee the build-out of facility-specific infrastructure in existing locations.
5. Participates in recruiting efforts.
6. Is active in the training and/or development of others.
7. Uses business knowledge to set priorities and develop project plans.
8. Has a deep understanding of best practices in their area of expertise and ensures their application.
9. Operates and manages both routine and emergency services on a variety of critical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, etc.
10. May assist in the design and build-out of new facilities.
11. May assist in projects to increase current facility efficiency.
12. Responsible for asset and inventory management.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s Degree or Technical (Military/Trade School) Degree and relevant experience.
2. Relevant engineering experience managing large-scale services and managing teams in a mission-critical environment.
3. Proven track record of success in delivering complex projects & prior ownership of the operation of a mission-critical team and/or product.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Data Center Engineering Experience.
2. Experience in a mission-critical operations environment (e.g. nuclear facility, high technology manufacturing, healthcare, aviation maintenance, oil and gas), preferably linked to 24/7 uninterrupted operations.
3. Fundamental knowledge of network design and layout as well as low voltage (copper/fiber) cabling.
