Job Description:
Responsibilities
1. Analyse products, data-related policies and initiatives to provide focused practical legal advice and risk mitigation strategies for products across multiple jurisdictions.
2. Provide legal, product, engineering, policy and other business teams with legal advice, support and guidance on data-related laws and regulations.
3. Monitor and assess new developments in data protection and information security (i.e., new laws, regulations, important judgements, regulatory guidance, etc.).
4. Support WhatsApp's data protection internal compliance and ensure accountability under applicable data-related laws and regulations.
5. Liaise with outside legal advisors and represent the company before regulators and other relevant parties in the EEA/UK.
6. Work with wider legal team on EEA/UK regulatory and litigation matters.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Law degree.
2. Minimum of 5 years PQE in data protection law, at a law firm, a data protection / other relevant authority and / or in-house legal team (applicable litigation, regulatory or more general product counselling experience will also be considered).
3. Proven in depth understanding of, and experience in advising on global data protection laws and in particular, GDPR and ePrivacy.
4. Highly organised and demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively while prioritising competing tasks.
5. Excellent problem-solving, written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Strong drafting skills and attention to detail.
7. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under significant time pressure.
8. Genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for learning new subject areas and translating that knowledge into actionable guidance.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience in ensuring internal data protection compliance and product counselling.
2. Advisory experience in adjacent areas of law such as DMA, DSA or OSA.
3. Additional language skills beyond English.
