The Director of Nursing (DON) and Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) will play a vital role in overseeing the daily operations of the nursing staff, ensuring the highest standard of care for our residents.
The DON position requires a strong leader with a passion for elder care, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage the nursing department's day-to-day operations.
* Supervise and mentor nursing staff, including conducting performance evaluations and providing ongoing training and support.
* Ensure compliance with HIQA regulations and company policies and procedures.
* Develop and implement care plans tailored to individual residents' needs, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social well-being.
* Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate comprehensive care.
* Monitor residents' health status and respond promptly to any changes in condition.
* Participate in recruiting, selecting, and onboarding nursing staff.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in accordance with regulatory requirements.
* Manage budgets, staffing schedules, and resource allocation.
* Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and open communication.
Qualifications/Experience:
* Current Registered Nurse registration with the NMBI.
* Minimum 6 years of nursing experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role, preferably in long-term care or residential home settings.
* Strong knowledge of HIQA regulatory requirements.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with residents, families, and staff.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in fast-paced environments.
* Clinical audits: regularly review clinical documentation, ensuring appropriate and timely assessments, care planning, and implementation of care is documented and reviewed.
The DON and ADON also monitor standards of cleanliness and hygiene, and foster effective working relationships and good communication between nurses, carers, housekeeping, and catering staff.
