TrafficShift is a service within the Global Connectivity and Network Availability organization.
Global Connectivity is the border network that provides secure, highly available, low-cost, and performant connectivity to and from everywhere in the world for AWS; and Network Availability provides the services that detect, alarm, correlate, and mitigate every kind of network impairment to provide availability for the AWS network that is indistinguishable from perfect.
TrafficShift is a networking service that is foundational to the success of the AWS network availability engineering.
The TrafficShift service enables fast event mitigation and safe deployment configuration updates and operating system upgrades to the global Amazon network.
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure.
In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running.
We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.

Key job responsibilitiesA System Development Engineer within the TrafficShift team at AWS owns the design and development of key components of our network availability service.
You will get to:
Develop world-class software systems for automating Amazon's network.Provide technical direction to the team and identify areas of focus.Create and review software design documentation.Own the operational excellence of the software you put into production.Contribute to improving our documentation, processes, and tools so that we improve our performance as a team.A day in the life:
You deliver technology solutions that are tested, maintainable, optimized, and which generate positive feedback.You deliver designs for components that solve defined technical problems.You demonstrate the ability to identify risks and mitigations and make technical trade-offs in your designs and your team's designs.You are able to work independently and with your team to complete projects successfully.BASIC QUALIFICATIONSExperience (non-internship) in professional software development.Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems.Experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems, and hands-on systems engineering.Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology.Experience working in a high pace DevOps.Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems).Experience with Python (preferred), Ruby, or Java.Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
