PE Global are delighted to be working with our client who are Ireland’s Leading Timber Processing Plant. They supply both the Irish and the UK markets with products for the construction, pallet wood and fencing industries. They also manufactures timber frame homes and engineered roof trusses for the house building sector. Our client has operations in Fermoy, Longford and Enniskillen in Ireland, Troon, Invergordon and Edinburgh in the UK.
They now have an exciting opportunity to appoint a Forester for our sawmilling business in ROI. This role will be based out of Fermoy but will require travel to Coillte lots and private forestry growers.
Role
The successful candidate will join a dynamic forestry team, ensuring the delivery of logs from the forest to our Irish mills. Reporting to the Head of Forestry in Ireland, the candidate will work as part of our team in Fermoy.
Key Responsibilities
* Log valuation and procurement, standing, roadside and delivered material, from state and private suppliers.
* Manage harvesting and haulage operations to meet the mills requirements and meet Health and Safety standards. Picking up the role of Forest Works Manager, under the HSA and maintaining industry standards and codes of practice.
* Plan log intake to Fermoy in co-ordination with mill staff.
* Deliver logs in a timely manner, while meeting the mills specification and quality standards.
* Operate the Forest Management Systems.
* Attend meetings with the state and private sectors and take part in marketing events and committees as required.
* Maintain a broad knowledge of forestry and keep abreast of current issues.
Candidate Profile
* Be able to assess standing and roadside timber, have experience in log procurement and the Forest Works Manager role.
* Be able to mange harvesting and haulage contractors to meet the mills needs and standards. As well as meeting industrial standards and codes of practice.
* Third level forestry qualification.
* Self-starter with ability to work as part of a team.
* Good analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
* Excellent organisational skills.
* Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
* Full clean driving licence and willingness to travel.
* Excellent IT skills.
