S/he will:
Develop and maintain pharmaceutical services to inpatients and outpatients Ensure appropriate pharmacist supervision of dispensary activities Promote safe, appropriate, effective and cost effective use of medicines and pharmaceuticals in the treatment of and services for patients. Manage technician deployment and work with Senior Technician(s) to assign tasks and ensure all required duties are fulfilled. Participate in and oversee staff induction and training. Maintain records of mandatory staff training and ensure staff are up-to-date. Ensure the PSI Duty Register is maintained Maintain the Pharmacy Health and Safety Manual Maintain the Pharmacy Hazardous Chemicals register Maintain Pharmacy Waste Management Policy Maintain Pharmacy Major Incident Policy Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures relevant to Inpatient Services and compliance with regulations and guidelines. Participate in education of pharmacy and non-pharmacy staff Advise the Pharmacy Executive Manager on the development of pharmacy services to outpatients and to wards. Review relevant technological advances, advise the Pharmacy Executive Manager and make recommendations. Collaborate with other Chief 2 and Senior Pharmacists to ensure that all operational areas of pharmacy function as an integrated service. Participate in and represent UHW Pharmacy Service at relevant Hospital Group and National Committees and Working Groups as agreed with Pharmacy Executive Manager and approved by hospital management. Assist in the overall management and functioning of the pharmacy service commensurate with grade. Keep appropriate records of incidents, queries, activities and workload. Participate in Clinical Pharmacy duties as agreed with the Pharmacy Executive Manager Undertake other agreed duties as necessary Education & Training The Chief II Pharmacist (Patient Services) will: Participate in the teaching and training (including in-service training) of staff, as may be required. Promote and actively participate in continuing professional development and research activities consistent with the post. Risk Health & Safety The Chief II Pharmacist (Patient Services) will: Maintain and implement standard operating procedures, protocols and safe working practices, ensure ongoing quality control and validation of all services. Ensure that correct procedures are adhered to in relation to accidents and investigations and ensure that proper reporting arrangements are in place in line with the requirements of the Health, Safety and Welfare at Work Act 2005, to include frequent risk assessments and adherence to the hospital Safety Statement. Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) Standards as they apply to the role for example, Standards for Healthcare, National Standards for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections, Hygiene Standards etc and comply with associated HSE protocols for implementing and maintaining these standards as appropriate to the role. Support, promote and actively participate in sustainable energy, water and waste initiatives to create a more sustainable, low carbon and efficient health service. Management The Chief II Pharmacist (Patient Services) will: Be expected to be able to deal with a number of priorities and demands at the same time with unpredictable interruptions requiring changes in priorities. Promote the effective and efficient use of resources, avoid unnecessary waste and maintain awareness of budgetary constraints. Confidentiality: In the course of your employment the post holder may have access to, or hear information concerning the medical or personal affairs of patients and/or staff or other health services' business.
Such records and information are strictly confidential, unless acting on the instructions of an authorised officer, on no account, must information concerning staff, patients or other health service business be divulged or discussed except in the performance of normal duty.
In addition records must never be left in such a manner that unauthorised persons can obtain access to them and must be kept in safe custody when no longer required. The post holder may be required to deputise for the Pharmacy Executive Manager when necessary or to undertake other appropriate duties at the request of the Pharmacy Executive Manager or Hospital Manager.
