Assistant Financial AccountantContract : Full Time/Fixed TermThe Tyndall National Institute is seeking a Financial Accountant to join our Finance team on a fixed-term basis and in a busy and expanding support function. The successful candidate will support the financial accounting function while acting as a business partner to research groups. Key responsibilities will include leading the preparation of financial statements, management accounts and a range of financial reports required by internal stakeholders.Key ResponsibilitiesCo-ordinate the preparation of monthly management accounts, financial statements and reports in a timely and accurate manner.Support the preparation of the annual budget, variance analysis and financial reporting packs to a high standard and for presentation to the Senior Leadership Team and Tyndall Board.Manage the requisition approval process on Agresso ensuring that all purchase requests are reviewed for compliance with procurement policies and processed in a timely manner.Manage the expense claim approval cycle, ensuring that expense claims are compliant with the relevant Travel & Expenses policy, processed on a timely basis and providing guidance to claimants and supporting admin staff where necessary.Prepare, maintain and assist with costings for laboratory and other internal service re-charges and co-ordinate the month-end processing of charges.Support the estimation of commercial quotations and charges.Provide assistance to the Finance Manager and Office Manager in the preparation of financial analyses and ad-hoc reports.Assist with the year-end audit process, including liaising with external auditors and preparing relevant schedules and documentation as necessary.Ensure that finance department processes are maintained in accordance in Tyndall ISO and quality standards (to include audit of precious metals) and contribute to the enhancement of sameSupport the administration, development and improvement of financial systems and procedures through participation in process improvement and finance transformation projects and initiatives.Provide financial supports to Research Groups as necessary (e.g. the processing of journal requests and related admin)Participate in Education and Public Engagement activities, as required.Ensure all activities are compliant with the Tyndall Quality Management system.Ensure all activities are compliant with the required Health and Safety standards.To carry out any additional duties that may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.Essential CriteriaA Professional Qualification in Accounting or equivalent.Typically 5 years' experience in a similar financial accounting role, preferably in a medium to large organisation.Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and financial reporting standards.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.Desirable CriteriaExperience with accounting software such as Unit 4-Agresso.Proficient in the Microsoft suite of tools, particularly MS Excel but also PowerBI and related applications.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels.Professional, motivated, a good communicator and flexible in approach to work.Ability to work effectively, to tight deadlines, as part of a team and under own initiative.Duration of contract is approximately 2 years with blending working /hybrid arrangements possible.Appointment may be made on the Admin III Grade 6 with a salary range of €58,493 - €69,837 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.For inquiries, please contact Finance Manager, Aidan O’Toole.Closing date of applications is 3rd March, 2025Application InstructionsPlease make sure to attach an up to date CV/Resume AND a brief motivation letter outlining how you meet the ‘Essential Criteria’ for this role.A full candidate information pack is available to download by clicking here.Please note that Garda vetting and/or an international police clearance check may form part of the selection process.Please note that an appointment to posts advertised will be dependent on University approval, together with the terms of the employment control framework for the higher education sector.At this time, Tyndall National Institute does not require the assistance of recruitment agencies.Tyndall National Institute at University College, Cork is an Equal Opportunities Employer.
