Job Description
The Team Leader will be responsible for the day-to-day clinical activities of the screening programme, ensuring robust failsafe processes, screening and grading capacity, management of service staff, and oversight of the workforce training, accreditation and competency, as well as strategic and operational management of the nominated Diabetic Eye Screening Programme(s). This will involve working with and across a wide range of stakeholder organisations. The post holder will ensure the programme is delivered in line with national standards, providing an excellent screening service with the ultimate aim of reducing new blindness due to diabetic retinopathy.
Qualifications
1. Must have experience in the optical field.
2. Must have management experience.
3. Minimum of Leaving Certificate or equivalent.
4. Must hold at least 2 years’ experience in Diabetic Retinopathy Screening and Grading, with experience of grading at both primary and secondary level or equivalent.
Key Skills
1. Management experience including performance management of teams and individuals, alongside experience of working within diabetic eye screening, healthcare, or other people/patient-focused services.
2. Ability to show initiative and prioritize tasks, using problem-solving skills largely unsupervised, sometimes under pressure, while remaining open to consulting with line managers.
3. Effective communication skills, both written and oral, within a multidisciplinary team at all levels and with diabetic patients in a calm, sensitive, and reassuring manner.
4. Ability to work successfully across professional organisations and with a multitude of stakeholders.
5. IT literate with experience of using bespoke screening database software and knowledge of information governance.
6. Responsibility for the supervision of other clinical/clerical staff within the programme.
7. Willingness to participate in and evidence continuing professional development (CPD).
Additional Information
1. Proficiency in the Irish language and/or any other language is desirable.
2. Candidates must be able to demonstrate a pre-existing right to work and travel within the EU. Documentary evidence will be required.
3. A full driving licence and preferably your own transport to travel to and from health centres, GP practices, and other places of work within the programme area.
4. All offers are subject to satisfactory vetting and reference checks. Depending on the nature of the role, Garda Vetting may also be required.
