The Role: The Environmental, Health and Safety Manager supports the Cork Manufacturing Site in maintaining and developing our Environmental, Health and Safety management systems. They are responsible for keeping up to date with Environmental Health and Safety legislation and regulations, interpreting all regulatory changes and providing guidance and direction to Cork Site Operations to ensure full compliance with IE licence, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
Position Responsibilities:
1. Site Lead for Industrial Emissions Directive Licence compliance and relicensing applications for large scale manufacturing.
2. Oversight of team reporting of annual emission and waste data to EPA and Water Authority.
3. Provide leadership and guidance on environmental, health, and safety (EHS) matters.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure understanding and compliance with EHS requirements.
5. Oversight of EHS Engineers undertaking occupational/machinery/process risk assessment, ergonomics, radiation safety, chemical introduction, industrial hygiene, ATEX assessment; whilst adhering to rigid change management programmes for medical device and clean room specifications.
6. Oversight of EHS Team delivering/integrating/auditing of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 accredited management systems.
7. Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies to meet regulatory standards in Industrial Emissions Licence, Radiation Protection Licence and co-support COMAH/Seveso III operations.
8. Provide technical support and collaborate closely with Operational Managers/Supervisors to continue development and implementation of EHS strategies to realize the vision of an “injury/incident free workplace.”
9. Manage partnerships with internal and external stakeholders on carbon, climate, REACH and sustainability issues.
10. Developing and implementing strategies to reduce the organization’s environmental impact, promoting energy efficiency, waste reduction, and sustainable practices.
11. Allocation and managing staff resources according to changing needs, ensuring that resource requirements are adequate, and training and development needs are met.
12. Ensures the recruitment and development of talent.
13. Coaches and mentors the EHS team and supports continuous learning and development toward a performance excellence goal.
14. Ensure performance is maintained through coaching, counselling, disciplining employees and planning, monitoring and appraisal of performance.
15. Promotes a climate of direct engagement and positive employee relations by fostering two-way communication and resolving employee issues in a timely manner.
Who you are:
1. 8 years plus experience within a regulated manufacturing environment in a chemical, pharmaceutical industry, ideally with Environment and Process Safety experience and demonstrated experience in managing a team of professionals.
2. Bachelor Degree (Level 8) in Health and Safety, Science or Engineering or related subject.
3. Leadership & organizational skills with the ability to influence and motivate colleagues to achieve high performance; highly motivated with a passion for EHS, continuously improving performance by implementing new and innovative ideas.
4. Strong leadership skills including development of staff, successfully executing objectives and projects, ability to lead in a cross-matrix work environment.
5. Excellent use of initiative and adaptable to changing priorities.
6. Ability to deal effectively with all employees and external business contacts while conveying a positive, customer-oriented attitude.
7. Effective presentation and communication skills - both written and verbal.
8. Analytical & problem-solving skills using recognised methodologies, a process improvement orientation, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment.
