Headford Co-operative Mart first opened in 1974 and since then has become an integral part of Headford and the surrounding farming community. The Co-operative Mart focuses on livestock sales as well as residential, commercial, and agricultural property sales.
Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Chair and the Mart Committee, the role of Mart General Manager will oversee all aspects of the day-to-day running of Headford Co-operative Mart and will further drive its current market position as one of the leading livestock centres in the West of Ireland.
Principal Responsibilities
General
1. Ensure an industry leading livestock trading environment through the achievement of strategic objectives.
2. Attend and report effectively at regular Committee meetings on business performance and matters of significance.
3. Build and maintain strong and effective long-term relationships with customers, colleagues and stakeholders.
4. Keep apprised of macro-industry developments and make appropriate recommendations.
5. Assume ad-hoc responsibilities as and when they may arise.
Leadership
1. Lead and inspire team members – to include regular team meetings, performance reviews, talent acquisition and management.
2. Cultivate a culture encompassing accountability, collaboration, collegiality, integrity and continuous improvement.
Finance
1. Maintain a clear understanding of financial performance and take actions where necessary to address any fluctuations from the target.
2. Ensure compliance with legislation and oversee submission of departmental and revenue returns in a timely manner.
3. Ensure an effective budget planning process and adhere to agreed expenditure thresholds.
4. Manage all credit-related issues and ensure highly efficient administration is maintained.
5. Prepare capital expenditure proposals for projects as required.
Commercial
1. Drive revenue growth through effective online and offline sales and marketing strategies.
2. Collaborate effectively with buyers, sellers, government agencies, community organisations, and employees while enforcing ethical business practices.
3. Keep apprised of macro-industry developments and make appropriate recommendations.
4. Ensure prudent expenditure through effective procurement practices.
Health & Safety
1. Maintain and ensure a best-in-class Health and Safety environment in line with requisite regulations.
Operations
1. Ensure best in class on site upkeep and maintenance.
2. Identify and introduce operational efficiencies and continuous improvement initiatives.
3. Ensure that all issues that arise between sellers and purchasers are resolved satisfactorily and promptly.

Person Specification
Education:
1. Relevant business and/or sector qualification desirable but not essential.
2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, in particular Word and Excel.
3. Knowledge of basic accounting, CRM and administration packages.
Professional:
1. Hands on management experience of working within a mart or associated business is desirable, but not essential.
2. Thorough knowledge and understanding of the livestock and/or the agricultural sector.
3. Good knowledge of employee relations and health and safety legislation.
Skills:
1. Strategic thinker with the ability to lead and inspire a team.
2. Customer-centric with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
3. Innovative mind-set, and proven ability to work on own initiative.
4. High attention to detail together with strong problem-solving skills.
5. Flexible, adaptable and able to work in every area of the Mart.

Additional:
1. Attendance at Committee meetings is required, these take place outside of working hours.

Schedule
Contract:
This is a full-time permanent position subject to a standard probationary period of 6 months. A competitive salary is on offer commensurate with education, experience and skills.
Working Hours:
40 Hours per week, 5 days per week including Saturday. Days and hours can vary in agreement with the committee.
