Ability West provides a wide range of high-quality services to children and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism across Galway City and County. Services provided are day, residential, short breaks, community supports, rehabilitative training, and multi-disciplinary supports. Contract: Specific Purpose Contract (4 months)
Location: Salthill, Galway
Role:
1. Support the Senior Instructor to plan, implement, and evaluate programmes in a variety of areas.
2. Instruct on courses as required. These courses will include specific skills as well as social development, personal care, and community integration.
3. Ensure that the people we support's person-centred plans are in line with policy.
4. An ability to instruct people we support in all programmes offered at Adult Day Centres.
5. Full current driving license with access to your own vehicle.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
7. Strong problem-solving skills.
8. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
9. Motivated, energetic, and enthusiastic personality.
10. An ability to advocate on behalf of people we support.
Key Duties:
1. Provide, under direction, instruction in a variety of areas including arts, crafts, social skills, cookery, and independent living skills depending on the people we support' preferences and ability.
2. Instruct on courses that will include specific skills as well as social development, personal care, and community integration.
3. Work as part of a team where work may be of a flexible nature and duties interrelate and overlap.
4. To establish and maintain relationships with people we support that are based on respect and equality and that promotes their independence.
5. Work positively and constructively with people we support who present with behaviours that challenge.
6. Use of person-first language in verbal and written communication.
7. Participate fully in regular staff and planning meetings, case conferences, family meetings, etc.
8. Support people we support in training, work experience, and employment opportunities at various locations as required.
9. Maintain high safety standards and ensure that all safety regulations are complied with. Implement and be familiar with the appropriate procedures in relation to the health and safety of staff and visitors as contained in the Ability West's Safety Statement.
