Embrace provides residential support services for adults and children with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and acquired brain injuries. We are currently seeking applications from STAFF NURSES for a position in our children's service in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan and in Navan, Co. Meath.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide nursing care to a high standard which meets the practical, physical and emotional needs of our residents with an intellectual disability, acquired brain injury or autism. In doing so, you will assist the residents in achieving their highest levels of functioning in order to maintain independence or to improve skills that will encourage them to be more independent.
Under the direction of the PIC (Person in Charge) of the house, your key responsibilities will include the following, ensuring our core values of Energy, Kindness, Empowerment, Quality and Happiness are met at all times:
1. Overseeing the medical needs of residents and delegating to other disciplines as appropriate and overall medication management.
2. Conducting nursing assessments with residents to establish their healthcare deficits and develop person-centred individualized nursing care plans for each resident.
3. Respecting, valuing and fostering the residents’ personal development, quality of life and abilities.
4. Collaborating with the team to implement residents’ individual goals through the development, implementation and review of programmes which meet the identified needs.
5. Supervising the team in the delivery of care plans for our residents.
6. Working with the team to assist residents to develop skills in self-care, home skills, community skills, interpersonal skills and leisure skills.
7. Supporting the team around health-related care planning and maintaining a high standard of care including ongoing review and management of GP clinic.
8. Attending all hospital and GP appointments which require a nursing input.
9. Carrying out any duties necessary to ensure the hygiene, comfort and care of the residents as required. This may include personal care and must be performed in such a way as to ensure the dignity and respect of the residents.
10. Maintaining accurate, detailed records for each resident in accordance with the principles of confidentiality, data protection, legislation, GDPR and Freedom of Information.
11. Adhering to infection control policies and procedures at all times.
12. Being actively involved in the induction of new staff to the house.
13. Assuming a supervisory role in the absence of the PIC to look after the day-to-day operations of the house.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
1. Must be registered in the Intellectual Disability / Mental Health Division and/or General Division of the Live Register of Nurses maintained by NMBI (Nursing Midwifery Board of Ireland).
2. Experience working in a residential, respite or day service setting with people with an intellectual disability would be desirable.
3. A kind and compassionate personality.
4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships.
5. Proven capability of working on your own initiative with a high level of attention to detail.
6. Good time management skills.
7. Knowledge of Irish healthcare and HIQA standards.
8. Fluent English.
9. Full driving licence preferred.
10. Eligibility to work in Ireland.
