Overview
We're National Broadband Ireland and we're delivering the largest telecommunications project that Ireland has ever seen. We're designing, building and operating Ireland's new, high-speed wholesale broadband network under the National Broadband Plan. Our aim is to radically transform the country's broadband landscape through the delivery of quality, affordable high-speed broadband to all parts of Ireland where such services are not available commercially.
The NBI™ network using a combination of State subsidy and commercial investment will deliver high-speed broadband to over 1.1 million people and over 554,000 premises in Ireland. No matter how remote or rural, no town, village or community will be left behind. NBI will be responsible for the management of the new national broadband network for the next 25 years.

Key Objectives / Accountabilities:
The Atlassian Operating System Administrator/DBA reports to the JIRA Service Owner and is primarily responsible for maintaining and monitoring Atlassian JIRA and Confluence Services at the operating system level. The JIRA services comprise the server instance cluster running in AWS and the JIRA back-end database which stores all ticket data. The Confluence service is an internal wiki used by project teams within the organisation.
The Atlassian Operating System Administrator/DBA owns the technical platform (the servers) on which these services run, and works in a team with the JIRA Service Administrator to provide full coverage and support for these essential services within the organisation.
As a secondary activity, the appointee works with other technical teams within the organisation (for example Managed Service Provider partners, Solution Architects, Operations team, etc.) to bring their skills and knowledge to bear in the design and provision of new services and systems as required to support a growing portfolio of services and customers.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Installing and configuring software and hardware
2. Manage network servers and technology tools
3. Ensuring security through access controls, backups and firewalls
4. Defining roles and setting up accounts for end users
5. Monitoring performance and maintaining systems according to requirements
6. Troubleshooting issues and outages, produce RCA documents as required
7. Supporting the JIRA Service Administrator as part of a core JIRA technical team
8. Working with established Service Management processes in the delivery of services (i.e. Release, Change, Incident, and Problem Management processes)
9. Working with service business users as required to ensure critical SLAs and KPIs are met
10. Upgrading systems with new releases and models
11. Mentor and train staff on new technologies as needed
12. Build and maintain an internal wiki with technical documentation and manuals related to the servers and services under management
13. Acting as liaison between NBI and service vendors (e.g. Atlassian support) in respect of raising and tracking vendor problem tickets
14. Working to automate as much activity as possible using available services and new technologies as necessary
15. This role includes the requirement of operating on an on-call rota for the delivery of support services to a growing customer base
Knowledge & Experience:
16. Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator or similar role
17. Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management
18. Knowledge of Atlassian tools and services running in a local cloud configuration would be beneficial
19. Knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery
20. Ability to create scripts in Python, Perl or other languages
21. Familiarity with Linux and other operating systems and platforms
22. Familiarity with AWS and Azure cloud services
23. Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude
24. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
25. BSc/Ba in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline; professional certification (e.g. Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA)) is a plus
26. Excellent ambassador for NBI, promoting the organisation and role modelling NBI's values.
