Overview
An exciting opportunity exists within the award winning ALG Graduate Talent team: a 12 month contract position (maternity cover) for an experienced Graduate Talent/HR Manager. This role offers the opportunity to gain experience in a dynamic early careers Talent team, and to develop/advance your management skills.
The Graduate Talent team at ALG looks after early careers. Working as part of the Graduate Talent Leadership Team, this Talent/HR management position oversees the management of all ALG trainees throughout their 3-year traineeship.
The successful candidate will have a keen interest in working with graduates and supporting them throughout this early career stage. They will have excellent interpersonal skills and will work daily with partners across the firm to support them as they manage and develop the trainee solicitors on their teams. They will also be the key contact for the trainee solicitors, supporting and managing their early years at ALG.
The role requires initiative and excellent process management skills. The ability to work collaboratively across the firm is essential to success in the role.
Role Responsibilities
* Trainee liaison, key point of contact for all HR and personal/ER issues for all trainees
* Partner liaison, key point of contact for partners on all aspects of trainee management
* Oversee trainee performance evaluation process
Graduate Process Management
* Daily management of all aspects of the ALG Traineeship
* Liaise with the business to determine trainee resourcing through placements and secondments
* Support allocation of graduate talent - align pool of graduate talent with both business needs and trainee development requirements
* Oversee internal and external communications regarding all aspects of the ALG traineeship
* Focus on continuous improvement
* Work closely with the L&D team to support delivery of the 3 year trainee L&D programme
* Support the on-boarding and induction of new trainees
* Liaise with the Law Society
* Key responsibility for management of the training contract in line with Law Society guidelines
* Key responsibility for engaging with Law Society on trainee matters
Graduate Team Management
* Working as part of the graduate talent leadership team (two trainee partners, talent manager and recruitment manager):
* Support the execution of the ALG Graduate Talent strategy
* Support recruitment processes e.g. graduate recruitment, summer internship
* Input to trainee candidate selection
* Oversee budget
* Manage junior colleagues on the Graduate Talent Team
* Oversee work allocation
* Manage and support performance and development of team members
General
* Build and maintain strong and collaborative relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
* Consistent communication, reporting and feedback with internal stakeholders.
* Involvement in cross departmental projects as required such as: Diversity & Inclusion, Pro Bono, Corporate Responsibility
Experience and Attributes
HR Experience
* Qualified to Degree level in HR or equivalent required
* Professional experience in a HR role essential, ideally at management level
* Experience managing HR personnel/ER issues essential
* Experience in a PSF or law firm environment highly desirable
* Experience with early careers highly desirable
Process/Project Management Experience
* Excellent organisational and project management skills with ability to manage a process from end-to-end
* Experience managing high volume processes
* Ability to work to deadlines, manage multiple projects and consistently deliver to a high standard
* Experience managing junior team members
* Excellent IT skills essential, including: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and knowledge of a HRIS
