Job Description
The Department of Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences at MTU Kerry, Tralee is seeking a skilled Technician to join its team.
This permanent position will contribute to the maintenance and development of technical facilities across the department, supporting teaching and research activities in chemistry laboratories.
Key Responsibilities
* Delivery of high-quality technical support and service to departmental teaching and research activities
* Maintenance and preparation of laboratory practical sessions and associated equipment/instrumentation/chemicals
* Management of laboratory records, including inventories and stock control of chemicals, laboratory apparatus/equipment, and equipment preventative maintenance
* Compliance and control of chemicals, chemical hazards, chemical storage, and waste management
* Instrumental apparatus and equipment maintenance, and documentation of procedures
* Health and safety compliance monitoring and adherence to regulations
* Ordering and delivery of materials and equipment, and maintaining stock levels as necessary
* Participation in project development to enhance student learning, and use of initiative in researching technical solutions
Requirements
* Ordinary Degree (Level 7) in Science or equivalent relevant qualification
* At least one year postgraduate experience, with ideally demonstrated experience in commissioning, operation, and maintenance of analytical instrumentation in a chemical sciences laboratory setting
* Good working knowledge and awareness of Health & Safety regulations and procedures as pertains to laboratory work in the chemistry environment
* Excellent communication, analytical, organisational, and team working skills, with a flexible and versatile approach to work
Eligibility
Candidates should note that eligibility to compete for posts is open to citizens of the European Economic Area (EEA), or to non-EEA nationals with a valid work permit. The EEA consists of the Member States of the European Union, United Kingdom, along with Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. Swiss citizens under EU agreements may also apply.
