Job Title: Civil, Structural & Architectural (CSA) Design Manager
Overview:
The CSA Design Manager will lead designs for AWS DCs in the EMEA geography and impact other projects worldwide. This role is part of a highly creative and efficient design team tasked with solving problems and challenging the status quo.
Key Responsibilities:
* Communicate conceptual designs and create/maintain project documentation before, during, and after construction. Develop and maintain Basis of Design, prototype design, and template specifications for CSA elements.
* Create and track metrics related to cost, quality, and duration of design. Collect data from construction and commissioning teams as designs are implemented. Establish capital project design budgets and contribute to complex business cases for existing region and new region deployment. Collaborate with AWS finance teams to secure funding for projects.
* Work in partnership with AWS Engineering leads to schedule engineering resources and influence design changes based on internal customer needs.
* Partner with internal customers to establish project scope, schedule, and deliverables. Create, review, and release design RFPs. Manage external design consultants through the design and construction process. Coordinate with internal and external Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, and Cabling design engineers.
* Think outside the box to find innovative solutions prior to and during the construction process to reduce costs without negative impacts on quality or reliability. Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with design consultants. Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Engineering from an accredited school with 5 years of working experience, including 3 years in the design of mission-critical facilities, inclusive of working experience with MEP engineering consultancies.
* Expertise in creating, reviewing, and approving architectural RFPs, bids, designs, and documentation. Ability to develop new concepts through exploration, design, testing, and deployment.
* Define building system-level architecture, document performance and equipment requirements, communicate conceptual designs, and create/maintain project documentation before, during, and after construction.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Master's degree in Architecture and/or Architecture/Engineering license with 5+ years of experience in Data Center design and construction.
* Project Management Certificate.
* Vendor and consultant management skills.
* Working knowledge and experience with large scale mechanical and power systems, knowledge of international building codes and construction techniques.
