With over 3 million users visiting our website and apps every month, we’re driven by the opportunity to enhance the home buying and selling experience. If you’re excited to do impactful work that reaches hundreds of thousands of people daily, this could be the perfect role for you.
We are looking for an experienced Staff Engineer to join the Daft engineering team working with the Head of Engineering and Engineering Leadership. We have some big aspirations for our products and some exciting technology challenges. We’re looking for the right person to help bring these products to life and help build great software that will deliver the future of one of Ireland’s most popular services.
This role will give you the opportunity to exercise and develop your engineering skills to help define the direction & implementation of the Daft Platforms and work with our Engineering Leadership to build a vision and roadmap to support our strategic goals.
What will I be doing
Software Engineers at Distilled build the core services to support our different products, websites and apps. We strive to use the best technologies for the job and are continuously upgrading our technology stack.
Here’s just some of the things you’ll work on:
1. Drive the technical design and roadmap for our backend technology stack, identifying areas of improvement and implementing modern best practices.
2. Identify problems and opportunities and collaborate with teams to architect, design, implement and operationalize solutions.
3. Deliver high quality code, adhering to best coding practices, providing code reviews, and guiding more junior team members.
4. Actively contribute to the success of key projects and features for Daft.ie by working closely with individual teams to accelerate their work.
5. Ensure technical solutions and patterns are suitable for and are adopted successfully across all our platforms.
6. Act as a role model and mentor to developers of all disciplines in our engineering team and in particular members of our backend chapter.
What skills and experience do I need
1. Strong communication skills - the ability to work well with others, share ideas and influence outcomes.
2. Excellent knowledge of and experience using Java and Object Oriented design principles.
3. Solid experience building cloud-based applications, ideally using AWS.
4. Solid understanding of databases such as PostgreSQL or MongoDB.
5. A self-starter with an analytical approach who is comfortable working on their own initiative and handling their time effectively.
6. Creative thinking and is willing and able to solve complicated technical problems that others cannot.
7. A degree or masters in Computer Science/Engineering or a related field.
Advantage if you have:
1. Experience using Spring, ElasticSearch or OpenSearch, AWS, Docker and container orchestration systems such as Kubernetes or OpenShift.
2. Experience using GitHub Actions for CI/CD.
3. Experience building microservices and working with messaging queues.
4. Experience of Prometheus / Grafana for monitoring/alarming of services.
