Long Island University College of Veterinary Medicine (LIU-CVM) invites applications for the position of Vice Dean for Clinical Programs. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Vice Dean for Clinical Programs will oversee a distributive clinical veterinary program. The Vice Dean for Clinical Programs will recruit high quality clinical partners, ensure that mechanisms are in place for distribution of materials to clinical partners that details objectives and expectations of the clinical program, develop and deliver training modules for clinical partners, develop competency-based assessments for students, train clinicians to perform objective evaluation of students, collect and monitor feedback from students and partners regarding the clinical experiences, and develop partnerships that will enhance clinically-based research. The Vice Dean will be required to travel to clinical affiliates within the region, will lead contract negotiations with existing clinical partners, and source and develop new partnerships to ensure the best clinical experience for the students.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : LIU-CVM seeks an accomplished, self-driven leader with outstanding interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. The Vice Dean will share a commitment to providing high-quality veterinary education, consistent with the mission and values of Long Island University College of Veterinary Medicine. The Vice Dean will have:
· Demonstrated knowledge in clinical settings; ability to articulate and uphold high expectations for clinicians and scientists;
· Proven ability to interact well with members of the veterinary education community, faculty, students, and alumni;
· Understanding of the complexities of a distributed model of clinical veterinary education;
· A proven ability to promote a culture of diversity and inclusiveness, and success in working with diverse communities;
· The ability to work cooperatively and effectively as a member of LIU-CVM leadership team;
· Familiarity with compliance and reporting requirements for accreditation (AVMA-COE Standard 4- Clinical Resources, Standard 9 -Curriculum and Standard 11- Outcomes Assessment)
The individual will supervise personnel assigned to the office and serve as a member of the college leadership team.
Qualifications: Eligible applicants must hold a DVM (or equivalent) degree, a license to practice Veterinary Medicine and specialty board certification. Applicants with leadership experience within the veterinary profession are encouraged to apply. Additional requirements for this position include effective administrative experiences, a commitment to excellence in professional veterinary medical education, a clear understanding of issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a willingness to lead finding innovative solutions to emergent issues affecting the veterinary profession.
