TOBIN, a large multi-disciplinary (engineering, environmental, planning) consultancy practice operating in Ireland since 1952, is currently looking to recruit an experienced Design Engineer (Water & Utilities) to join our busy and growing team in any of our offices – Dublin, Galway, Limerick, Sligo or Castlebar.
This is a full-time role with hybrid working options
Competency:
The position of Design (Civil) Engineer within TOBIN requires a minimum Level 8 Honours Degree qualification in Civil Engineering (or equivalent qualification appropriate to the tasks assigned) and in general the title may apply to staff that have between 2- and 6-years' experience depending on the knowledge and skills gained over the course of their career to date.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Where directed by the Project Manager, liaise with Clients to deliver the required designs.
Review documents and designs prepared by Graduate Engineers.
Complete designs and drawings for site development works.
Complete surface water drainage designs for developments in accordance with SuDS, including determining the greenfield runoff rate and sizing soakaways and attenuation tanks.
Design foul sewer and water main networks for developments in accordance with the Irish Water Codes of Practice.
Liaise with Irish Water through the pre-connection enquiry, connection application and diversions processes.
Prepare Designers' Assessments of Risk for all designs.
Prepare preliminary inspection plans and undertake BCAR inspections.
Procure Site Investigation, Building and Civil Engineering Contracts and, where appropriate, prepare pricing schedules and Bills of Quantities.
Assist Project Managers in the preparation of tender documents and tender assessments.
Administer construction contracts to ensure that design requirements, project schedules and project budget are achieved.
Liaise with local authorities in scoping the feasibility of new projects in terms of drainage, traffic, flooding etc.
Take instruction from their Line Manager (and where appropriate, the relevant Project Manager and senior members of the project teams).
The Skills Required of a Design (Civil)
Engineer:
Excellent written and verbal (English) communication and interpersonal skills.
Competent understanding of drainage design principles, including implementation of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems and the requirements of the Irish Water Codes of Practice for Water and Wastewater Infrastructure.
Fully versed in the requirements of site development works, including the principles of the Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets and the Recommendations for Site Development Works.
Proficient in the use of AutoCAD 2D and site modelling software packages, such as Site 3D, and drainage design software packages, such as Innovyze MicroDrainage.
Working knowledge of relevant software packages such as Microsoft Project and the capability to develop skills in the use of other software packages such as Microsoft Access and GIS software packages such as ArcGIS and MapInfo.
Working knowledge of the various public procurement procedures and thresholds.
Working knowledge of construction contracts such as the PWMF Forms of Contract and RIAI Forms of Contract.
Working knowledge of the Building Regulations, i.e.
