Physiotherapist
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Physiotherapist to join our Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT) based in Leitrim. As part of the CDNT, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in assessing, treating, and managing children and young people with physical disabilities, developmental delays, and neurodevelopmental conditions. The Physiotherapist will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, and social workers, to deliver family-centred care aimed at improving the mobility, independence, and overall quality of life of children.
Key Responsibilities of a Physiotherapist
1. Conduct comprehensive physical assessments and evaluations for children with a wide range of disabilities and developmental conditions.
2. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, in collaboration with families and the multidisciplinary team, to address the specific needs of the child.
3. Utilize evidence-based interventions to promote physical function, mobility, and participation in daily activities.
4. Provide therapeutic interventions in clinical, home, school, or community settings to support the child’s physical development.
5. Offer guidance and education to parents, carers, and school staff regarding the child’s therapy program, equipment needs, and strategies to support physical development.
6. Ensure timely reviews and adjustments to treatment plans in response to changes in the child’s condition or progress.
7. Work closely with other members of the CDNT, including occupational therapists, psychologists, speech and language therapists, and social workers, to deliver holistic care.
8. Participate in regular case conferences and interdisciplinary meetings to share insights and contribute to the development of integrated care plans.
9. Assess the need for and prescribe assistive devices such as orthotics, wheelchairs, and other mobility aids.
10. Provide training and education to families and caregivers on the appropriate use and maintenance of equipment.
11. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including assessments, treatment plans, progress reports, and communication with other professionals.
12. Prepare reports and documentation for statutory reviews, funding applications, and referrals to other services as required.
13. Stay current with best practices, new developments, and emerging evidence in paediatric physiotherapy.
14. Participate in continuous professional development (CPD) activities, including attending relevant training, workshops, and seminars.
Key Requirements of Staff Grade Physiotherapist
1. BSc/MSc in Physiotherapy (or equivalent qualification recognized by the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists).
2. Registration with CORU (Health and Social Care Professionals Council).
3. Experience working in paediatrics and/or with children with disabilities (preferably in a clinical, community, or educational setting).
4. Previous experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team is desirable.
5. Knowledge of developmental disorders, such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and autism spectrum disorder, is an advantage.
