Ethos Care operates a number of nursing homes across Ireland. We are looking to hire a proactive, detail-oriented Financial Accountant. We are seeking a team member who will assist our Head of Finance support each of the nursing homes we operate, to enable them provide best in class care for our Residents.
Position Overview
The Financial Accountant is responsible for managing and analysing financial data, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and Irish tax regulations. This role involves working closely with the finance team to support strategic financial planning, contribute to budgeting processes, and improve financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
* Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
* Conduct variance analysis, highlighting financial trends, and advising on corrective actions.
* Support the preparation of management accounts and financial performance reports for senior management.
Budgeting & Forecasting
* Assist in the development of the annual budget and ongoing financial forecasts.
* Monitor actuals vs. budget, investigating discrepancies and providing insights for improvements.
* Collaborate with department heads to provide financial data and insights for effective decision-making.
General Ledger & Month-End Close
* Oversee the general ledger and ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded.
* Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, including accruals, reconciliations, and adjustments.
* Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, ensuring timely resolution of discrepancies.
Compliance & Audit
* Ensure compliance with Irish accounting standards, tax laws, and internal policies.
* Prepare documentation and reports required for statutory audits and liaise with external auditors.
* Implement audit recommendations to strengthen internal controls and improve financial accuracy.
Tax & Regulatory Filings
* Prepare and submit tax returns, including VAT, corporate tax, PAYE, and other statutory filings.
* Keep abreast of changes in tax legislation and ensure compliance with Irish tax requirements.
* Assist in tax planning initiatives and advise management on tax-related matters.
Process Improvement
* Identify and implement process improvements to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations.
* Support automation efforts, including the enhancement of financial systems and processes.
* Collaborate with the finance team to establish best practices and ensure consistency across all financial processes.
Financial Systems Management
* Maintain the accounting system and ensure data integrity and accuracy.
* Train and support finance team members in the use of financial systems and tools.
* Generate ad hoc financial reports and analyses to support decision-making.
Requirements
* Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or CPA qualification is required.
* Experience: 3+ years of experience in accounting or finance, ideally in a similar role or in public accounting.
* Knowledge:
* Strong understanding of Irish GAAP, IFRS, and local tax regulations.
* Proficiency with accounting software preferably Sage (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or other ERP systems).
* Skills:

* High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
* Strong time management and organizational skills.
