Scientific Officer Microbiology Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Scientific Officer to join our team in Derry. As a Scientific Officer, you will play a crucial role in the collection and analysis of water, wastewater, trade effluent, sludge, and soils.
About the Role:
* Collect and analyze water, wastewater, trade effluent, sludge, and soil samples using various analytical techniques.
* Perform micro/crypto analysis of water matrices, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
* Maintain and develop strong technical competency in all analytical Micro/Crypto methods carried out by the laboratory.
* Monitor and maintain stocks of chemicals and consumables, raising purchase orders and receiving goods as needed.
* Attend stakeholder meetings, representing Analytical Services and building strong relationships with stakeholders across the business and externally.
Responsibilities:
1. Be fully trained and competent in the use of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), Power BI, and other tools to effectively plan workload and forecast resource usage.
2. Take responsibility for monitoring and maintaining laboratory accreditation to ISO 17025 standard and Drinking Water Testing Specification (DWTS).
3. Develop and maintain a strong understanding of analytical techniques in microbiology and ISO 17025.
Requirements:
* A third-level qualification (HNC/HND/Degree) in Biology or a subject where the study of Biology is a major component.
* At least one year's practical analytical biology experience within an ISO 17025 laboratory or a laboratory operating a Quality Management system.
