JOB DESCRIPTION – ASSISTANT PSYCHOLOGIST (PART-TIME)

BACKGROUND
We are currently seeking a part-time Assistant Psychologist (14 hours a week) to join the team delivering our HSE-funded ADHD programme in Counties Louth and Meath.
The Changing Lives Initiative (CLI) is a community-based initiative that creates a better understanding of ADHD and provides an intervention programme for families with children (aged 3-7) experiencing behaviours consistent with ADHD. We offer a tiered intervention for families starting with Information and Awareness sessions, through to a Screening Programme and an intensive intervention in the form of an evidence-based ADHD focused Incredible Years Parent Programme. The intervention is primarily delivered pre-diagnosis, with potential families being identified via a range of agencies including health services, family support, GPs, and schools. As well as working with families, the project provides specialist training to education, health, and social care professionals.
JOB PURPOSE
The primary purpose of the Assistant Psychologist role is to support the administration of the screening process for the ADHD-focused programme and to support the delivery of Information & Awareness Sessions to professionals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Workshop Support: Assist in the delivery of the project’s ADHD Information and Awareness session to teachers, early years, and health and social care practitioners.
2. Screening and Assessment: Help administer and score screening questionnaires for families referred to the ADHD-focused programme, to confirm their suitability for the programme, under the Senior Psychologist’s guidance.
3. Data Collection and Analysis: Gather and organise outcomes data to measure the impact of the ADHD-focused IY Programme for individual families.
4. Facilitator Team Assistance: Provide support to the facilitator team, assisting with queries related to intervention delivery.
5. Relationship Building: Help the Local Coordinator strengthen links with local agencies, ensuring children and families can access further resources.
6. Administrative Tasks: Carry out suitable administrative duties linked to service provision, in accordance with the role of an Assistant Psychologist.
7. Keep abreast of relevant developments at a national and international level in relation to ADHD and other neurodevelopmental conditions.
8. Engage in training as required with other Changing Lives Initiative staff.
9. Provide a flexible approach to work as some evening and potentially weekend work will be required.
10. Have access to personal transport, as travel is required.
SUPERVISION AND DEVELOPMENT
The Assistant Psychologist will receive a minimum of four hours of formal supervision each month, along with informal supervision as needed. Opportunities to observe the Senior Psychologist in practice and develop professional competencies will be provided. Time will be allocated for study, literature review, and networking with other professionals in the field.
PERSON SPECIFICATION Qualifications & Experience:
1. A 2.2 honours Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (or equivalent).
2. A Master’s degree in Psychology or a relevant discipline.
3. A minimum of two years experience working with children, young people, and/or families.
4. Eligibility for graduate membership of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI).
Desirable Qualifications & Experience:
1. Additional training in neurodevelopmental conditions, such as ADHD.
2. Experience in delivering workshops or structured interventions to children, families, or professionals.
3. Familiarity with psychological assessments, outcome measurement, or service evaluations and ability to administer and interpret psychological screening tools under supervision.
4. Experience working in multi-agency or community-based settings, collaborating with professionals from education, healthcare, or social services.
5. Understanding of neurodivergent-affirmative approaches when supporting children, young people, and families.
6. Experience in qualitative or quantitative research, including data analysis and literature reviews.
7. Familiarity with safeguarding procedures and ethical considerations when working with vulnerable populations.
8. Knowledge of local services and supports available to families of children with neurodevelopmental conditions.
Skills & Attributes:
1. Strong knowledge of evidence-based approaches in child and family psychology, particularly early intervention.
2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presenting information to diverse audiences.
3. Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
4. Competence in IT systems, including data entry, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
5. Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
6. Willingness to travel across Louth and Meath, with access to personal transport.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Location
The project team works across Counties Louth and Meath. The main Project Office is located in Dundalk (DkIT); however, Hybrid / Remote working options are available to staff.
Contract Type
Initial 12-month Contract (extended subject to ongoing funding).
Hours
0.4FTE (14 hours per week).
25 days (pro-rata) exclusive of public holidays.
