Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our client's team, a successful mechanical services provider to the construction industry across the UK & Ireland.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles, construction methods, and cost estimation techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
* Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documents to prepare detailed cost estimates for mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection.
* Perform quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications.
* Evaluate and select appropriate materials and methods based on project specifications and industry standards.
* Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options.
* Prepare and submit detailed PQQ and bid proposals.
* Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing.
* Ensure all bid documents are complete, accurate, and submitted on time.
* Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure estimates are aligned with project goals and timelines.
* Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project kick-off meetings to gather necessary information and clarify project requirements.
* Maintain comprehensive records of all estimation activities, including correspondence, bid documents, and cost analysis.
* Prepare and present detailed cost reports to management and clients as required.
* Identify and assess potential risks and uncertainties in the estimation process.
* Develop contingency plans and allowances to mitigate identified risks.
Requirements:
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical estimating within the construction industry.
* Tendered and procured packages £2 million and above.
* Strong understanding of mechanical systems, construction methods, and industry standards.
* Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Knowledge of building codes and regulations.
