Join the Planning & Environmental Group within the Civil, Environmental & Renewables Department of ESB Engineering & Major Projects, where we provide a broad range of environmental and planning services for ESB Group throughout the feasibility, design, construction, and operation & maintenance phases of electricity infrastructure projects in Ireland and overseas.

We are looking for an experienced Environmental Specialist to join us on our journey to a Brighter Future.
Position Description
The Environmental Specialist will be a member of the Planning & Environmental (P&E) Group within the Engineering & Major Projects (EMP) business unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and delivering services and solutions related to environmental site investigations, site remediation, pollution control, and waste management.
Key Responsibilities
* Support project delivery by providing specialist environmental advice and support to a range of projects, working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Provide technical input to EIAR and other statutory consents for projects (e.g., planning, IE, IPC, and waste licence applications).
* Design and oversee environmental site investigations including soil sampling, groundwater sampling, and soil vapour assessment.
* Provide advice and recommendations to internal stakeholders and projects in managing and dealing with compliance for contaminated land, remediation works, waste management, decommissioning of expired assets, and management of environmental incidents in compliance with all applicable laws.
* Possess strong commercial awareness of the financial implications of the management of contaminated land and waste.
* Proactively collaborate with teams across the Department and the wider ESB group as required.
Knowledge Skills and Experience
* A minimum of 5 years relevant experience is required.
* Demonstrated experience in contaminated land with exposure to a wide range of environmental and engineering situations including:
- Knowledge of and successful delivery of projects in accordance with the following: EPA Guidance on Contaminated Land and Groundwater at EPA licensed sites, 2013 & Environment Agency CLR 11 and Land Contamination and Risk Management (LCRM) 2019; Guidance on the classification and assessment of waste (1st edition v1.1, WM3) & BS 10175:2011 + A2:2017 Investigation of potentially contaminated sites.
- Knowledge of and experience in soil and waste management, waste classification, hydrogeological assessment, due diligence, Licensing and Permitting, Generic Quantitative Risk Assessments (GQRA’s), Detailed Quantitative Risk Assessments (DQRA’s), and Remedial Options Appraisals.
* Working knowledge of Irish and EU environmental legislation and industry best practice standards/guidelines required.
* Experience with working in multi-disciplinary teams and delivering small to large scale projects.
* Strong project management skills, including excellent communications and report writing skills.
* Similar experience to that detailed above for contaminated land and waste management in Northern Ireland, UK, and Europe.
* Full driver’s license and access to a car.
Qualifications
Level 8 Environmental/Geological/Hydrogeological Degree
* Qualified Geologist or Hydrogeologist
* Chartered Environmentalist
Location
This role is based in the EMP Dublin office but travel to project locations as required is a key requirement of the role.

The successful candidate may combine working from home within the Republic of Ireland, with attendance at base for in-person collaboration, the frequency of which is agreed with the manager and may change as we learn about hybrid working. Site visits are also a feature of this role which will require a certain amount of travel within Ireland.

€57,000 to €68,000 per annum
