The Role - Head of Communications – EPIC Museum
EPIC Museum is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Communications to lead and execute the communications strategy for the museum. With a primary focus on EPIC Museum, while also supporting communications efforts across its wider portfolio of brands, including The Jeanie Johnston Famine Ship, The Irish Family History Centre, The chq Building, and the upcoming Food Hall (opening in 2026).
Reporting to the Director of Marketing, this senior role will be central to enhancing EPIC Museum’s public presence and engagement, while also playing a key role in the broader communications efforts for the museum’s brands and the exciting new Food Hall. The successful candidate will bring strategic vision, leadership, and expertise to this position, ensuring clear and consistent messaging across multiple brands and projects.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
1. Communications Strategy: Lead and implement a communications strategy that enhances EPIC Museum's brand presence, drives audience engagement, and supports organisational goals. Ensure messaging aligns with the museum’s mission while fostering strong relationships with target audiences.
2. Content Strategy & Storytelling: Oversee the creation of engaging and on-brand narratives for EPIC Museum and the other entities. Ensure brand positioning is consistent and reflects the unique identity of each brand.
3. Media & Public Relations: Act as the key spokesperson for EPIC Museum, conducting interviews and providing media commentary. Be the lead in managing media enquiries, and maintaining positive relationships with journalists and stakeholders. Represent the museum at public events, conferences, and media engagements.
4. Influence on Social Media Strategy: While not leading the social media strategy directly, you will play a role in influencing and guiding the team to ensure digital and social media efforts align with overall communications goals, brand messaging, and audience engagement strategies.
5. Stakeholder & Community Engagement: Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, including local communities, government bodies, international partners, and media. Support efforts to engage global audiences, particularly the Irish diaspora.
6. Event Promotion & Attendee Engagement: Collaborate with the events team to ensure successful promotion of temporary exhibitions and museum events. Focus on driving attendance by developing effective communication strategies and promoting the benefits of attending.
What We’re Looking For: Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
1. Experience: At least 7 years of experience in a senior communications role, with a proven track record of leading communications strategies for diverse brands. Experience within the cultural, tourism or advertising/marketing industry is highly desirable.
2. Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field (Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications are a plus).
3. Public Speaking: Excellent verbal communication skills, with experience giving interviews, public speaking, and presenting to various audiences including the media, stakeholders, and the public.
4. Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic communications plans that drive growth and brand recognition. Capable of aligning communications efforts with broader organisational objectives.
5. Digital Savvy: Proficient in digital communications tools and social media platforms. Experience in guiding social media strategies and ensuring alignment with broader communications goals.
6. Creative & Innovative: A creative approach to developing and executing compelling communications strategies and content across various channels.
7. Public Relations Expertise: Experience in media relations, crisis management, and public perception, with a strong ability to build and maintain media relationships.
8. Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively across diverse audiences.
9. Commercial Acumen: A strong understanding of how communications drive commercial outcomes, from audience engagement to revenue generation. Experience in measuring and reporting on the effectiveness of communications.
Location
The role is Dublin based, we do offer a flexible working environment, following the completion of the probationary period. Due to the nature of the role occasional evening, and weekend work on site or at events is to be expected.
