Department Profile:
The Investment Management (IM) Financial Crimes Risk Team is embedded within the Firm’s business line. It is responsible for identifying, assessing, and escalating potential money laundering and reputational risk issues associated with higher risk client types. The IM Financial Crimes Risk Team is considered the first line of defense and supports the onboarding, enhanced due diligence, and negative news processes for Morgan Stanley.
Primary Responsibilities:
The team is seeking an experienced candidate who will lead end-to-end metrics and reporting for the IM Financial Crimes Risk department. You will be working in a challenging and data-driven environment focused on high quality detailed operational reporting to senior stakeholders on the management of the FCR team, as well as continuous process improvement. The role requires regular interaction with senior leadership within FCR and other areas in the Firm.
The ideal candidate will have experience in managing complex strategic projects, have expertise in data management and reporting as well as excellent strategic thinking and communication skills to produce effective monitoring of existing and emerging risks across the operational environment of the FCR team.
The Analytics & Metrics VP will:
* Lead the efforts to analyze data trends, gather data from multiple sources, and ensure data is clean and complete. Structure large data sets to find usable information.
* Create and validate monthly metrics and reports presented to senior leaders of the FCR team and firm leadership.
* Analyze business management metrics to identify variances, gaps and issues for escalation.
* Communicate with individual subject matter experts on outliers or threshold breaches to obtain additional information and commentary to be included in the metrics reporting.
* Provide relevant ad-hoc data to teams outside FCR and for other major initiatives.
* Maintain and create relevant documentation for new and existing reporting processes.
* Respond to regulatory and audit requests for information.
* Establish governance for reporting, tracking of risks and issues, project status and deliverables.
* Identify opportunities for improvement in the metrics and reporting process.
Required Experience and Skills:
* Significant experience in a data analysis/reporting/programming role.
* Bachelor's degree preferably in a STEM discipline such as computer science, statistics, mathematics, economics, physics and computational finance.
* Strong leadership, project management skills and ability to manage many competing priorities.
* Very strong analytical, quantitative and critical thinking skills.
* Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint and SQL for data analysis related tasks.
* Experience visualizing data for reporting and end user analysis, using tools like Tableau and PowerBI.
* Experience analyzing, cleaning and aggregating data from multiple data sets and data sources such as Excel, databases and SharePoint sites using analytical tools.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and comfortable interfacing with senior personnel on highly sensitive issues.
* Ability to proactively identify, analyze and improve upon existing processes for optimization.
* Strong sense of ownership and accountability for work product.
* Excellent time management skills and ability to execute tasks within tight deadlines.
* Proven ability to work across departments to influence others and build strong relationships.
