Background:
RCSI has developed a comprehensive CPD programme to support all NCHDs reach their full career potential.
This programme has tripled in size over the past 6 years and now offers over 130 courses and various formats and delivery methods to meet the needs of busy aspiring Surgeons.
With over 1000 NCHDs actively participating in the programme it is the largest NCHD CPD programme in Ireland the UK.
The principal objective of the post is to contribute to the development, organisation, and delivery of RCSI's Continuous Professional Development in Surgical Skills, Surgical Science and Surgical practice.
The role will primarily focus on Surgical Skills, but also include areas that NCHDs across the country have asked for increased support.
Responsibilities:
* Undertake education needs analysis to identify the gaps in the education and skills needs of Surgical NCHDs and the wider surgical workforce.
* Liaise with specialty representatives in various specialties to identify the education gaps for NCHDs in the Specialty and then support them in the development and delivery of new specialty-specific courses to close these gaps.
* Help develop and support the adjunct faculty who deliver these programmes to ensure the quality of the courses and that the stated learning objectives are met.
* Facilitate delivery of teaching of Continuous Professional Development Programme in Surgical Science, Skills and Practice.
* To increase the flexibility and accessibility of our programme, support the development of online self-paced courses or content where appropriate.
* Assist the operations team in planning and organising teaching days, ensuring smooth coordination of all aspects, from curriculum design to participant feedback.
* Contributing to quality assurance/quality improvement and accreditation of existing courses.
* Support the recruitment and development of adjunct faculty for curriculum delivery and onboarding to Surgical Affairs.
Person Specification:
* Essential:
o Have an active, informed and continued interest in the postgraduate education and career guidance of surgeons in training and in furthering the aims and policies of the College.
o Be a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons in Ireland.
o Be on the Specialist Register and in good standing with the Irish Medical Council.
o Hold a permanent public appointment as a Consultant Surgeon within the state, obtained by open competition.
o Practice in a hospital which is recognised for training.
o Experience in teaching particularly in a clinical or simulation setting.
o Enthusiasm for teaching and the ability to engage learners in technical skills.
o Strong organisational skills to manage the coordination of teaching days and events.
o Innovative approach to teaching, with experience or interest in using simulation technology in education.
* Desirable:
o Hold a formal postgraduate qualification in education or healthcare education.
o Possess excellent computer, presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
o Personal drive, energy, and enthusiasm to inspire the achievement of excellent results.
o Strong commitment to quality improvement and personal professional development.
o Be an energetic and enthusiastic self-starter using your own initiative to complete tasks.
