Job Title:
Registered Nurse, Health and Addiction Treatment
Role Purpose:
The purpose of the role is to provide a nursing service for homeless clients who are admitted to the Dublin Simon Residential Health and Addiction Treatment Services.
The role includes assessment of the health needs of clients which addresses their physical, social, psychological, mental health, addiction, cultural and health needs.
The nurse is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of clients throughout their stay.
This is done in conjunction with the visiting GPs and members of the Residential teams.

Responsibilities of Role:
Effectively liaise with a range of service providers both voluntary and statutory in order to assist in the assessment of referrals to the unit.
Complete all administrative tasks such as report writing, maintenance of accurate nursing and medical records, up-to-date client case notes, and relevant form filling in order to ensure that the units run smoothly, safely, and effectively.
Facilitate groups through an effective health education and promotion programme in order to ensure that clients receive relevant information for making informed decisions.
Liaise with the visiting GP in relation to admissions, prescribing medications, and addressing the health needs of all clients in the service.
Person Specification:
Qualifications:
RPN or RGN, on the live register maintained by An Bord Altranais for the relevant qualifications.
Diploma or degree in addiction studies.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years post-registration experience.
Experience of working with clients who are homeless and/or experience of working with clients with a history of addiction.
Extensive knowledge of ethical principles and code of professional conduct articulated in the ABA "Code of Professional Conduct."Determines own scope of practice and formulates decisions about care utilizing the principles for determining scope of practice in the Scope of Nursing and Midwifery Practice Framework document.
Ability to manage challenging behavior.
Aware of procedures to be followed in emergency situations relating to clients/staff/visitors.
Advocates for the rights of clients.
Ensures confidentiality in terms of records and client interactions.
Maintains level of professional courtesy and competency.
Uses the Roper Logan Tierney Model of Nursing regarding assessments of admission, setting goals, planning interventions, caring for patients, and evaluating progress towards achievement of goals.
Aware of principles of medication management and the storage/checking procedures for usage of MDAs.
Effective utilization of tools to monitor alcohol withdrawal.
Knowledge of clinical risk management and identifying potential hazards.
Knowledge and understanding of infection prevention and control procedures.
Knowledge of health and safety requirements related to the role.
Understanding of change management strategies.
Ability to establish and maintain caring, therapeutic interpersonal relationships with clients.
Ability to work as a member of a team and can collaborate when making decisions regarding clients.
Effective communication with external agencies.
Ability to manage interpersonal conflict and resolve issues.
Ability to educate clients on how to maintain and promote health.
Experience of using a Model of Nursing.
Knowledge of the homeless sector and the effects that has on clients' health and well-being.
Experience facilitating groups.
Evidence of involvement in a change management project.
Evidence of experience in developing policies, procedures, and guidelines.
