ROLE PURPOSE
The Instrument Technician is responsible to install and commission the measuring and control devices used in industrial, pharmaceutical and commercial processing. The desired Instrument Technician will work with a wide variety of pneumatic, electronic and microcomputer devices used to measure and control pressure, flow, temperature, level, motion, force, and chemical composition.
General requirements are:
1. Consult manufacturers’ manuals to determine test and maintenance procedures
2. Use pneumatic, electrical and electronic testing devices to inspect and test instrument and system operation, and diagnose faults
3. Consult with and advise process operators
4. Carry out risk assessments
5. Calibrate and maintain components and instruments according to manufacturers’ specifications
6. Work with engineers on basic design
7. Install and maintain instruments on new plant equipment and process equipment
8. Interpret and use appropriate CSA, ISA and API installation standards and practices
KEY TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Ensuring that technical issues are resolved without delay.
2. Prepare risk assessments, method statements & all aspects relating to Health & Safety.
3. Liaise with the design team & supply chain to ensure correct operation of the plant on site & successful handover of all instrumentation.
4. Monitor & record progress on site against the construction programme.
Duties will include but not limited to:
1. Further develop system architecture (Cabling)
2. Maintain and log all changes
3. Cold and hot loop checking
4. Calibration of instruments
5. Bench check
6. Receipt verification, in and out
7. Read and redline system P&ID’s
8. Undertake regular meetings with the supply chain to maintain progress & to ensure resources are matched to the construction programme
9. To liaise with the project manager & prepare the project close out report.
10. Review with the project manager the allocation of resources & to review progress.
11. Review & ensure that the site based personnel have the correct training & valid certification for the project.
12. Motivate the E&I team on site.
13. Develop a strong & maintain an excellent working relationship from the start to the completion of the project.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
1. Level 6 qualification time served tech.

1. Detailed knowledge of the Instrumentation role
2. Detailed knowledge of Electrical Instrumentation
3. Commercial understanding
4. Health, Safety and Environmental systems and procedures
5. Knowledge of the team- their strengths and their weaknesses
