Prior Provincial About us: Carmelites live and work in 26 nations throughout the world.
We are teachers, retreat directors, chaplains to hospitals and prisons, in parish ministry, counsellors, spiritual directors, and missionaries.
In Ireland, Carmelites have care of one parish in Dublin: Whitefriar Street, which is also an important and historic city centre church.
People come to Whitefriar Street and to other Carmelite churches at Kinsale, Kildare, Moate, Terenure College and Gort Muire to share in the celebration of the Eucharist and other religious services.
Irish Carmelites are still committed to education at Terenure College, Whitefriar Street, Third Level and through CIBI (Carmelite Institute of Britain and Ireland), which provides distance-learning courses on Carmelite Spirituality.
Opportunities for sharing and teaching the Carmelite spiritual tradition also arise through preaching, retreats and occasions of special devotion.
The Irish Carmelites established a mission in Zimbabwe in 1946.
This has now developed into a vibrant presence, with many young Zimbabwean Carmelites.
Following the Provincial Chapter of 2024 there is a clear desire for our Order to become more and more outward-looking and missionary in its sense of purpose and direction.
The Coordinator of Communications & Engagement, in collaboration with the Prior Provincial and his assistant, will provide ongoing advice, consultation and resources regarding communication strategies for the Irish Province of Carmelites.
This is a key appointment to develop and manage an effective communication strategy to include internal and external communications, assisting the Prior Provincial in promoting the Orders mission, ministry, and development.
The person we seek, therefore, needs to have an appreciation and understanding of the mission of the Catholic Church, and experience of successfully driving change in a communications context.
A collaborative and creative influencer, this experienced communications professional will have the strategic awareness and operational expertise to enable our Order and its members to become the effective communicators we need to be and to raise awareness and understanding of our Christian mission and work.
The ability to write well and understand news and trends in the Church and the world, allied with the capacity to analyse and incorporate data into decision-making, is essential.
The person will:
Work in partnership with the Provincial to develop effective branding and mission driven communication.
Direct the dissemination of communications to an of audiences through the Orders communication channels.
Tracks engagement across the various communication channels and make strategic recommendations that are driven by data.
Will produce compelling digital content and physical media that reflects the Orders vision and ethos.
Work in a collaborative manner with the various project teams and commission of the Order as required and contribute to the conceptualisation and realisation of the Orders vision and strategic direction.
Lead the establishment of a Province Communications Commissions to develop media content for the Orders use.
Oversee and improve the management of internal communications in the province.
Main responsibilities:
Oversee the Orders publications and the creation of all digital, video, audio and printed media content, including oversight and management of the orders communication platforms, as well as, but not limited to the website, social media presence, brochures, flyers, publications, newsletters, and documents.
Facilitate the provision of communication resources to all Carmelite Communities in the province.
Provide communication support to the Prior Provincial as required.
Collaborate closely with the Orders Director of Safeguarding.
Develop and maintain relationships with communication organizations within the Church both on a national and regional level, including catholic media, local dioceses, the Irish Catholic Bishops' Conference and other Catholic groups.
Qualifications:
An ability to work collaboratively with all groups, including staff, leadership, volunteers, donors, parishioners and other supporters of the Carmelite Order and the Prior Provincial.
Thorough knowledge of communication principles and practices with exceptional ability to communicate effectively verbally (both orally and written).
Creativity, decision-making, interpersonal skills, use of discretion, teamwork, negotiation, service orientation, and public relations to foster the Churchs mission.
Good understanding of the value orientation of the Catholic Church and the Carmelite Order and a willingness to support those values in various forms of communications.
Familiarity with social media platforms, photo and video editing software, email communication systems and metrics such as Google Analytics.
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Internet, E-Mail.
Ability to discern when information is confidential and to maintain strict confidentiality.
Education/Experience:
Bachelors degree (minimum) in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Theology or related fields with 3 to 4 years practical work experience.
Formal education/training or extensive experience with using media effectively to communicate across generations, e.g., web-based applications, new media, print and design.
