SUMMARY OF ROLE:
Reporting to the Technical Director, CField are seeking a motivated and qualified Design Manager to join our existing team. The successful candidate will work closely with the Project Manager and Quantity Surveyors on each project and will be responsible for the day-to-day management of all drawing issues pertaining to site(s) and the flow and co-ordination of same.
The Design Manager will also be responsible for the delivery of accurate and co-ordinated design information from the inception of projects and sketch schemes through design development to the construction phases, culminating with as built information.
They will control and manage both internal resources and external consultants to ensure the preparation in a timely manner to support the projects overall design, procurement and construction programmes.
The role must be conducted in accordance with the CField Construction management process and procedures to assist in ensuring the successful completion of the project(s) on time, on budget and to the highest standards. All of this must occur within the parameters of the highest level of company health & safety, environmental and quality procedures.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Understand and be fully familiar with the form of contract being utilised and CField obligations under same.
2. Understand and be fully familiar with the contract documents – drawings, specifications and reports etc.
3. Review and agree design team scope of services in conjunction with QS.
4. Review design for value engineering and buildability opportunities.
5. Review and comment on all drawings issues and ensure they are coordinated to the highest level to ensure buildability and commercially prudence.
6. Co-ordinate and work closely with the client, design team and specialist sub-contractors and suppliers.
7. Liaise with all relevant Architects, Structural Engineers, Site Services Engineers and QS practices to ensure consistency in work progress.
8. Identify any relevant drawing/production problems and propose timely solutions.
9. Develop Design Programme and Information Release Schedule in collaboration with Design Team.
10. Ensure all site staff have all relevant information in a timely and professional manner.
11. Prepare sketch details on site when required as appropriate (P.I. issues pertaining).
12. Review sub contract tender packages with Quantity Surveyor to avoid scope gaps.
13. Deal with all site queries from staff and sub-contractors.
14. Co-ordinate subcontract design details.
15. Support in the preparation of comprehensive snag lists for sub-contractor works.
16. Assist in developing any related site project programmes.
17. Aid in the production of any related project progress reports.
18. Attend and represent CField Construction in a professional manner at all relevant meetings.
19. Facilitate in the timely and professional flow of information between the design team and the construction team.
20. Support and assist in the communication flow between the client, design team and sub-contractors.
21. Attend relevant internal management team meetings.
22. Ensure all appropriate site personnel conduct their duties to the highest standard.
23. Carry out objective assessments of staff performance and bring forward appropriate training proposals.
24. Provide coaching to staff working with or reporting to the Design Manager.
25. Ensure compliance and promote good work practices in relation to Health, Safety and Welfare management systems.
26. Contribute to internal management meetings relating to the design process and management systems.
27. Manage change control log and change control process.
28. Work closely with the other members of the technical team to identify and advise of lessons learnt.
29. Complete any other duties as assigned by line manager.
KEY EXPERIENCE:
1. Degree/Diploma in relevant construction related topics (Architecture /Civil Engineering/ Structural Engineering/ Services Engineering etc).
2. Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
3. Primary Sectors, Residential Apartments, Student Accommodation, Hotel and Leisure, Offices, Refurbishment, Care Homes and Housing.
4. Project Values, €5 to €90 million Design and Build.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Primarily located in the Cork office (Centre Park Road), with work on site as and when required. There may be requirement for travel to sites / offices in both Ireland and the UK. Travel will be minimised where possible.
In some cases on large/very large/multi-sectional projects, the Design Manager may be resident on site as part of a larger team, however, in most cases the Design Manager will share their skills sets with a number of sites (if required). Some projects may require more than one Design Manager (large, multi-sectional) all of whom should report to the Technical Director.
