Project Automation Engineer
A leading pharmaceutical company in Waterford is seeking an experienced Project Automation Engineer to join their team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and leading projects related to automation and cybersecurity. They will ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet the required goals and targets.
The engineer will report project progress to the Department Manager, providing regular updates on equipment design, facility design, and project goals and targets. The role requires strong leadership skills, as the engineer will lead a project team or support validation following project upgrades or installs.
The ideal candidate will have a third-level qualification in engineering or science, with experience working in either the medical device or bio/pharmaceutical industry. A minimum of 5 years of experience in automation, cybersecurity, and project management is required. Knowledge of Windows and Server upgrades, SAP, and cybersecurity protocols is highly desirable.

You will be responsible for safely coordinating the delivery of automation upgrades, coordinating system upgrades, and addressing potential systems obsolescence.
Key Responsibilities:
• Safely coordinate the delivery of automation upgrades associated with facility equipment.
• Coordinate the upgrading of automation systems with above-site representatives and onsite key stakeholders.
• Possess knowledge of cybersecurity systems and requirements, and address potential systems obsolescence.
• Lead the Project Team or support the validation following project upgrades/installs.
• Complete scoping of Windows and Server upgrades as required, considering cybersecurity implications and obsolescence risks.
• Conduct Front End Studies for upgrading equipment and systems.
• Create and present Project Approvals to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) for approval.
• Coordinate all equipment documentation requirements, ensuring they meet local and company standards.
• Commission and validate automation upgrades as required.
• Report to the Project Manager on project progress and provide advice/support on key project outcomes, including cybersecurity and obsolescence issues.
• Work with relevant Business Unit team leaders to implement improvement opportunities.
• Lead regular Project review meetings, with a focus on cybersecurity and obsolescence.
• Manage contractors as required, ensuring they adhere to cybersecurity protocols and address systems obsolescence.
Requirements:
• Third level qualification in an Engineering or Science discipline/experience (Automation).
• Experience of working within either the medical device or bio/pharmaceutical industry would be an advantage but not necessary.
• 5 years+ experience in automation, cybersecurity, and project management.
• Knowledge of Windows and Server Upgrades, and previous experience associated with cyber security.
• Experience of SAP an advantage.
• Project Management experience is preferable but not necessary.
• Interpersonal skills required to operate in a multi-function project team set up.
• Ability to work within a team and on own initiative to articulate and deliver specific functional requirements for all aspects of the project and work with members of various disciplines and functions across the project.
