Role Overview
The Head of Health & Safety will be responsible for leading, implementing, and continuously improving the company’s health & safety policies, procedures, and systems. The successful candidate will report directly to a Company Director and play a key leadership role, ensuring that Construction remains at the forefront of safety compliance, risk management, and training.
This role requires a strategic and hands-on leader who can engage with all levels of the business, from senior management to on-site teams, ensuring a proactive and positive approach to health and safety.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead and manage the Health & Safety Department across all Construction projects.
2. Develop, implement, and continuously improve health & safety policies, procedures, and management systems.
3. Ensure full compliance with Irish health & safety legislation, industry best practices, and company standards.
4. Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments across all project sites.
5. Provide expert advice and guidance to senior management, project teams, and site personnel.
6. Develop and deliver safety training programs to ensure a high level of awareness and competency within the business.
7. Lead incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
8. Engage with external regulatory bodies, subcontractors, and clients to promote a culture of safety.
9. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety performance and reduce workplace risks.
10. Develop KPIs and safety performance metrics, reporting findings to the board and senior management.
11. Oversee project safety planning, ensuring all sites operate with robust risk management frameworks.
Ideal Candidate
1. 10+ years’ experience in a Health & Safety leadership role within the construction industry.
2. Strong knowledge of Irish health & safety legislation, risk management, and compliance.
3. Experience working with Tier 1 or Tier 2 main contractors on large-scale construction projects.
4. Record of leading teams, developing policies, and implementing safety culture initiatives.
5. Ability to engage, mentor, and train personnel at all levels within the business.
6. Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence key stakeholders.
7. Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to risk mitigation.
8. Professional qualifications in Health & Safety (NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent).
