eBay’s traffic engineering team is responsible for building and managing platforms that currently handle all of eBay public and private site traffic. As a part of the traffic engineering team, the ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver the platform and contribute to open source projects. The candidate will be working on building a very resilient distributed system at eBay’s edges that can proxy all of eBay traffic and also eBay’s service mesh for all of our services with unparalleled observability.
We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join our dynamic team at eBay in Dublin, Ireland. This role requires a solid understanding of networking, proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Go, and Python, experience with Kubernetes, and knowledge in kernel development. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in the field, focusing on optimizing traffic flow, enhancing system performance, and developing service meshes to ensure scalable and secure network operations. Additionally, you will contribute to open-source projects and implement observability practices to monitor and ensure the reliability of our systems.
Responsibilities:
1. Design, develop, and maintain traffic management solutions.
2. Implement and optimize network protocols and configurations.
3. Develop high-performance applications in C++, Go, and Python.
4. Deploy and manage scalable systems on Kubernetes.
5. Contribute to kernel development and optimization for improved system performance.
6. Design and implement service meshes using Istio to manage microservices efficiently.
7. Implement observability tools and practices to monitor system performance and health.
8. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate networking solutions.
9. Monitor and analyze traffic patterns.
10. Contribute to open-source projects.
11. Stay updated with the latest developments in network technologies, kernel enhancements, and security practices.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
2. At least 5 years of proven experience in networking, traffic management, kernel development, and service meshes.
3. Strong programming skills in C++, Go, and Python.
4. Expertise in using Kubernetes for orchestrating containerized applications.
5. Experience with observability tools and practices.
6. Experience with TCP/IP networking.
7. Familiarity with TCP, SSL, and HTTP Protocols.
8. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
9. Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Skills:
1. Experience with Envoy and Istio for traffic control and service mesh management.
2. Experience contributing to open-source projects.
3. Certifications in networking, Kubernetes, or related fields.
4. Experience in a high-traffic, large-scale environment.
5. Familiarity with additional programming languages or frameworks.
