Position Summary:
SHEIN seeks a lawyer to advise on EMEA Data Protection and Privacy compliance matters. As a key part of SHEIN’s growing Privacy Team, the Privacy Counsel - EU will provide privacy and data protection guidance and advice and help administer SHEIN’s Privacy Program. The Privacy Counsel - EU will play a highly visible and impactful role at SHEIN, will support our EU Regional Privacy Head/DPO, and work directly with senior leadership, internal and external stakeholders, and regulators on privacy and data protection matters.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Advise marketing, operations, information technology, and human resources teams on compliance with global data protection laws, regulations, and practices, focusing particularly on the EU ePrivacy Directive, GDPR, and UK Data Protection Act.
2. Conduct internal privacy assessments and compliance examinations, including privacy impact assessments, transfer impact assessments, and third-party risk management reviews.
3. Design, implement and maintain external privacy notices and related disclosures, as well as enterprise-wide data protection policies, procedures, and standards.
4. Advise on discussions with the supervisory, regulatory, and data protection authorities in the EU, UK, and around the world.
5. Maintain and update form data protection agreements, related questionnaires, and assessments.
6. Assist marketing, information technology, security, human resources, and procurement teams in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating data protection related agreements.
7. Provide legal and strategic advice and guidance in support of cross-border data flows and related projects across SHEIN.
8. Foster a culture of privacy compliance and privacy by design.
9. Monitor legal and regulatory developments in data protection to anticipate emerging trends, spot issues, and help SHEIN make informed strategic decisions.
Job Requirements:
1. Experienced lawyer with 3 to 5 years of full-time Data Protection experience at either an international law firm, government agency, or in-house. Prior in-house experience at a technology company is preferred but not required.
2. Deep working knowledge of global privacy laws and regulations, including the EU GDPR and UK DPA, with practical experience advising on cross-border transfers, data protection agreements, data subject access requests, and audience engagement technologies.
3. Demonstrated ability to independently gather information, issue-spot, and problem-solve in a professional, creative and ethical manner.
4. Ability to perform duties under minimal supervision while exercising discretion and independent, sound judgment.
5. A professional, confident demeanor and an ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and to communicate effectively and positively with clients and all levels of management, including providing counsel to senior level executives.
6. Detail oriented, strong work ethic, responsible team player.
7. Demonstrated ability to respond to changing demands and shifting priorities quickly in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
8. A willingness to learn new skills, technologies, and businesses.
9. CIPP/E, CIPT, CIPM, and/or technical background strongly preferred.
10. Fluent written and spoken English is required; bi-lingual Mandarin speakers are strongly preferred.
11. Residence in or willingness to relocate to Dublin, Ireland is strongly preferred.
12. Must be a qualified solicitor or barrister in Ireland.
