The Fire Prevention Section within Dublin Fire Brigade plays a crucial role in ensuring adequate fire safety in buildings and other structures. This is governed by the Fire Services Act, 1981 and the Building Control Acts 1990 to 2014.
The Fire Services Act, 1981 places a duty of care on individuals with control over premises to take reasonable measures against fire outbreaks and ensure the safety of persons in the event of fire. The Building Control Acts provide a statutory basis for the Building Regulations, which the Fire Prevention Section administers and enforces, particularly Part B for most buildings except houses.
This position reports to a Senior Executive Fire Prevention Officer or designated personnel, requiring collaboration as part of a team and independent work as circumstances demand. Additionally, the Executive Fire Prevention Officer will supervise and mentor a team of Assistant Fire Prevention Officers.
Key Responsibilities:
* Ensure compliance with the Fire Services Act, 1981 and Building Control Acts 1990 to 2014.
* Administer and enforce fire safety provisions, particularly for Part B buildings.
* Supervise and mentor Assistant Fire Prevention Officers.
* Collaborate with the team and work independently as needed.
Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as fire safety, engineering, or architecture.
* Possession of a professional certification in fire safety or a related field.
* Minimum 3 years of experience in fire safety or a related field.
* Excellent communication and leadership skills.
