CK/AYHY-107246 Engineering Technician (Packaging)
This role will support the installation, maintenance, overhaul, adjustment and modification of all plant and production equipment in the Packaging area, as well as the fabrication of new and replacement equipment. The Engineering Technician will also be involved in troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives in the Packaging area.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide direct support to the production and maintenance teams to resolve daily issues and assist with troubleshooting.
2. Install, modify and maintain the full range of production equipment in the Packaging area.
3. Continuously improve the production operations and improve efficiency, including:
1. Fine-tuning equipment to increase output in Packaging.
2. Reducing downtime and waste.
4. Work to the highest engineering standards and deliver optimal performance in the Packaging area.
5. Assist in the complete validation of new and existing equipment including acceptance trials and debugging.
6. Liaise with vendors, suppliers and local engineering shops.
7. Analyse customer complaints and internal quality issues, assisting in drawing up improvement programmes for equipment to eliminate defects.
8. Assist with the training of other Engineering Technicians, new recruits and apprentices as required.
9. Work closely with the maintenance team to apply learnings from breakdowns to improve preventative maintenance practices.
10. Participate in company-wide continuous improvement initiatives, working in teams and utilising appropriate quality tools.
11. Maintain appropriate recording and reporting systems on all engineering-related matters (e.g., breakdowns, maintenance) and fully utilize all current and new IT/processing systems (e.g., SAP).
12. Maintain high standards of safety and housekeeping to ensure area, machines and equipment are kept in a safe and clean condition, correcting and reporting unsafe conditions and other faults.
Educational Requirements:
Good knowledge of the Mechanical and Electronic Systems associated with high volume manufacturing equipment, holding a Third Level Qualification in one of those disciplines or the National Craft Certificate with additional specialised training and experience.
Relevant Experience:
1. Relevant experience in Packaging – ideally Schubert.
2. Relevant Automation experience, ideally with Cognex vision systems, Domino/Videojet laser printers, AB PLCs.
3. Candidates should come from an electrical/automation environment with good mechanical experience.
4. Relevant industrial experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
5. Ability to apply a scientific approach to problem solving, blending analytical and experimental skills to maximise productivity and yields.
6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
7. Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
8. Relevant PC skills.
