Under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager 1 and 2/Charge Nurse, the post holder will:
* Practice Nursing according to the professional code as laid down by the Irish Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland and the policies and procedures of the Saolta University Health Care Group.
* Support the philosophy, objectives, and goals of the Nursing/Midwifery Department.
* Follow appropriate lines of authority within the Nurse Management structure.
* Participate as a team member in all aspects of patient care.
* Demonstrate motivation and responsibility for professional self-development.
* Maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, and staff.
* Assist in other hospital areas as required, demonstrating flexibility.
* Participate in internal rotations to meet service needs and enhance professional development.
* Recognize personal limitations through performance evaluations and plan measures to overcome them.
Clinical Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Managers, the post holder will:
* Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care programs.
* Coordinate care with other multidisciplinary team members.
* Advocate for patients and their families, ensuring they are informed and supported.
* Collaborate on discharge planning and continuity of care.
* Maintain accurate written records of patient care.
* Promote innovation in patient care based on research and advances in treatment.
* Participate in setting and auditing professional standards.
* Engage in research activities and support research-based practice.
* Ensure respectful and dignified treatment of patients by all staff.
Educational Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Clinical Nurse Managers, the post holder will:
* Develop teaching skills and participate in orientation and training programs.
* Provide feedback for proficiency assessments of students and support staff.
* Identify training needs and enhance learning opportunities.
* Participate in the induction of new staff.
* Develop leadership skills to serve as a role model.
* Take responsibility for personal learning and development.
Management Responsibilities
The post holder will operate within their expertise, managing patient care and, in the absence of senior staff, taking management responsibility for the ward/unit. Responsibilities include:
* Managing a caseload of patients independently or under supervision.
* Delegating tasks to team members.
* Making decisions regarding patient care.
* Maintaining effective interpersonal relationships.
* Supporting and communicating with the Clinical Nurse Managers.
* Using resources effectively and efficiently.
* Coordinating staffing and liaising with Bed Management.
* Performing other duties as assigned by senior management.
