The Role
The Treasurer is a Director who specifically provides accounting and financial control support and guidance to the manager and the Board of Directors.
Main tasks will involve:
1. Working weekly with the manager, the staff, and the external accountant to ensure day-to-day expenses and incomes are properly processed and recorded.
2. Approving, monitoring, and reviewing organisational and financial performance against targets and financial budgets.
3. Supporting management, staff, and external auditors in the preparation of the organisation's financial statements.
4. Keeping all receipts and invoices filed (on SharePoint) as per procedures in place.
5. Ensuring financial records are audited appropriately in line with the date of the AGM.
6. Being an authorised signatory for the Charity and processing payments within set deadlines.
7. Ensuring that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.
8. Acting in the best interest of the charity.
9. Acting with reasonable care and skill.
10. Being part of the Finance Sub-Committee alongside the Finance Director and the Manager.
11. Monitoring risk management strategies for Fingal Volunteer Centre.
Based on the candidate's motivation and experience, the tasks can also involve:
1. Taking part in additional sub-committees if interested.
2. Supporting the team with writing grant proposals.
Essential Experience, Skills and Personal Qualities:
1. Confidence in dealing with invoices.
2. Organisational skills.
3. An enquiring mind, with the confidence to challenge constructively.
4. Commitment to the vision and mission of Fingal Volunteer Centre.
Desirable Experience, Skills and Personal Qualities:
1. While prior Treasurer experience is not a strict requirement, it would be beneficial.
2. Knowledge and experience of the Charity SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice).
Time Commitment and Location:
1. Ideally looking for someone who would commit for at least 1 year (term up to 4 years). We are happy to consider shorter commitments based on the individual profile.
2. Anticipated commitment is around 2 hours weekly to review and file invoices/receipts and process payments.
3. As a Director, the Treasurer will also attend monthly board meetings (1 hour), usually online on a Wednesday evening (in person on occasions in locations in Fingal).
4. Attendance to the AGM and the meetings related to the Audit.
Training and Support:
1. The new treasurer will receive induction, training, and support, ensuring a smooth transition into the role.
2. The treasurer will work closely with the Manager, the Finance Director, and the Board.
3. FVC has a budget set aside for board director training, and members are encouraged to undertake training as part of their role. Training needs will be identified on an ad hoc basis and through a board review process.
