PAKT YOUTH AND CHILDREN’S WORKER - COBH
Job Title: Parents And Kids Together, Youth & Children’s worker
Location: Cobh, County Cork, possibly other nearby locations as required.
Hours: This is a part time post of 14 hours per week over two days. Occasional weekend work required and hours subject to change during summer months (in agreement with post-holder). Permanent contract after six month probationary period subject to funding renewal.
Salary: The salary for this post is YMCA A5 - €18.82/hr
Parents And Kids Together (PAKT) is a community-based program that supports the whole family. We run weekly after school groups for 5-17 year olds as well as individual sessions for children and young people with more specific needs. Our sessions aim to be fun and youth-led, focusing on creating a safe environment for children and young people to build on their strengths.
PAKT works in close collaboration with TUSLA and the Meitheal area-based approach to support families in our communities. We have a designated Parent Worker in each centre who's available to families who may need a listening ear or extra practical support.
We also host family events throughout the year to strengthen the relationships between the children and adults within their family unit, in all its shapes and forms.
We are a low cost, inclusive program and welcome children and families from all backgrounds, in all circumstances.
Responsibilities of the Position:
Main Tasks:
The main tasks include:
* Recruitment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of the PAKT after school curriculum and activities in accordance with the PAKT manual (1-2 groups per week)
* To offer bespoke one to one interventions for children based on identified needs in collaboration with the Parent Worker and your line manager (4-5 sessions per week)
* To act as a lead practitioner for the Meitheal program facilitated by Tusla (training will be provided)
* To assist in the planning and delivery of family events and collaborate with SIRIUS Arts Centre to host ‘Art Adventure Day’
* To provide ongoing assessment of the children’s growth and development using established measurement tools
* To regularly communicate with and build relationships with PAKT families
* To contribute to the ongoing development of PAKT through participation in staff meetings and PAKT conferences
* To keep up to date recordings of the work and other administrative tasks in agreement with the line manager
* To engage in regular support and supervision and reflective practice sessions
* Assisting in the process of supporting young people into participative and leadership roles in the YMCA, e.g through an established Youth Advisory Committee.
* Recruitment and supervision of a CE worker and/or volunteers
* To contribute to the cleanliness and upkeep of shared YMCA building
* Any other duties related to PAKT in Cobh in agreement with the line manager
Person Specification:
We are looking for someone who is creative, solution-focused and enjoys taking initiative in the workplace. Must be flexible and enjoy working as part of a supportive team. This role requires enthusiasm and continuous learning on the job. The post-holder must also have good time management skills and be reliable.
Essential Requirements:
The successful candidate will have a third level qualification in the area of youth and community work / psychology / social work / social care or another related field. The post-holder will have had a minimum of two years experience of working with children and teenagers in a paid capacity. It is desirable that the candidate holds a full driving license and has their own transport. The post-holder will be expected to be in sympathy with the aims and purposes of the organisation as reflected in our strategic plan.
