Minimum Qualifications Journey Level MQs:
Four years of experience in mechanical and/or electrical trades; AND possession of a Wastewater Treatment certificate issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in the grade required for operation; AND possession of a Water Treatment Operator certificate issued by the New York State Department of Health.
Trainee 2 MQs:
Three years of experience in mechanical and/or electrical trades. Trainees must obtain a Wastewater Treatment certificate issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation AND obtain a Water Treatment Operator certificate issued by the New York State Department of Health during their probationary period.
Trainee 1 MQs:
Two years of experience in mechanical and/or electrical trades. Trainees must obtain a Wastewater Treatment certificate issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation AND obtain a Water Treatment Operator certificate issued by the New York State Department of Health during their probationary period.
All candidates must obtain a Class B Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles during their probationary period. Failure to obtain the appropriate driver’s license during the probationary period will result in termination.
Duties Description Maintains and services water treatment systems, wastewater treatment systems, ventilating and heating equipment, cooling towers, boilers, emergency generators, elevators, air compressors, electric motors and other electrical and mechanical systems and equipment and related controls.
Repairs doors, windows, vents, drains, railings and other building components.
Controls emergencies such as propane gas and gasoline leaks and stoppages, electrical malfunctions and other hazardous conditions.
Coordinates major repairs, installation of new equipment, rearrangement of existing equipment and other projects requiring agency personnel.
Supervises service area equipment operators by instructing staff in proper operating and maintenance procedures and techniques; assigning tasks; and reviewing work for adherence to established standards and schedules.
Maintains inspection records and stock part identification break down reports.
Operates tractor plow in snow removal operations.
